Hey all, I have a 15 express with the 5.7. This is my first time posting on here, and I just have a few questions about some performance upgrades that I’ve been thinking about doing. I want more hp overall, and more power in my mid-top end. I was thinking about upgrading to 1000 cc injectors and a 95mm throttle body. No spacer because they’ve practically been rendered useless in newer engines. I figured long tube headers would help since I’m getting more air and fuel in and I need more air out. Also long tube headers would help with performance in the mid-top end. I’m planning on porting my heads as well, but was wondering if I would need to do anything else to make these upgrades possible. I don’t want to upgrade one thing and not upgrade another, and have that cause issues. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
If you like old school amerian muscle noise, you have to go with AWE 0fg LOL Stands for zero friggs given!!
I had that installed and it sounds like a trx xD head turner for sure!

Also AWE is a highly respectable exhaust company... they used to specialize in german cars only, but they've now expanded into everything. I used to have one for my mk5 jetta..... and transferred it over to 3 of them ....and lasted me over 10 years and never rusted out.. They're are a top notch quality!

So i did not hesitate to put it on my 5.7!

For $300 I had a shop cut out the stock muffler and replace with a flowmaster 40-series. Truck sounds great without being ear-splitting loud like the kids favor these days. There's no need to spend a ton of money to get that American V8 sound.

I’m not looking to do a full engine swap, because I know I would still want to do these upgrades even if I did the swap lol. It would just put me way too much money in the hole for the truck being almost 10 years old now. I’m planning on taking it to a performance shop near me for the tune after I’m done with the upgrades.
I believe @rzr6-4 was referring to a 6.4 intake manifold swap, not a full engine swap. I purchased a kit from Moe's that includes everything needed: manifold, gasket, fuel rail, 6.4 injectors or 5.7 spacers, SRV module and ext harness.

You don't need bigger injectors or a bigger throttle body on a naturally aspirated 5.7,they'll just be a nightmare to tune. You have the exact same 251 throttle body as they put on the 485 horse Scatpacks, and it takes alot to get a 5.7 to their specs unless you boost it or spray it.
What's your budget,if all you got is 3 or 4 grand, about all you're going to be able to do is long tube headers and a tune, and maybe a 6.4 intake if you find a cheap used one and the matching 6.4 truck airbox,if you're buying the intake new and an aftermarket airbox,up your budget to 5,000,if doing a blower up the budget to 10G+,and if you want to do all that and throw a cam in it,you'll probably need closer to 12G,by then you're above the cost of a 6.4
Start pricing things out,and then set a realistic budget of how much you want to spend.
I'm in for just under $5k so far with just my performance upgrades so far: 6.4 manifold & CAI, shorties, Flowmaster muffler, V6 eFan swap, Diabo tuner w/ Hemifever tunes. Will probably do a cam swap which is looking to be about $3k if I DIY it.

Suspension is a whole other price tag lol.

Go back and reread it again,he was referring to swapping the 5.7 out for a 6.4 engine,as he refers to doing everything the op mentions to a 6.4

"If you want to put more money into it, start with a 6.4 swap and then do the previously mentioned steps".

Damn, I'm 100% with @Wild one on this......
Why didn't you just do a 6.4 swap at the start of all this???

But then like OP said, I'd want to do all the same upgrades to the 6.4, lol. Or suppose I could slap on a supercharger, but that just seems like cheating. This is daily driver for me, I'm not planning on tracking it regularly. Just want to tinker and maybe win some unofficial stoplight digs (in Mexico, of course). Although, if I get really bored one day I've been curious about the on3 turbo kit. Way cheaper than a blower and would be kind of unique--turbo'd 5.7 gas. Only thing is I don't want to bother with fuel pump upgrade.

My buddy did a 5.7 turbo, but when he still couldn't catch my little 75 shot truck,he went whole hog on a built to the nuts 6.4 with a turbo and about 12 psi, after that he had no problem passing my truck in the 1/4,although i could still get him in the 1/8th,lol. He said he quit counting at 40G though after doing the tranny and transfer case ;)
I'd throw a set of pistons and rods in a truck 6.4 and swap out the valves and springs and call it good, unless you got money to burn;) The truck 6.4 with a valve and spring change basically has hellcat heads with a naturally aspirated intake manifold bolt pattern, and it comes with a forged crank in its BGE block,(same block as the hellcats have),the 5.7 has a cast crank

All that sounds like a lot of money. What is your end use drifter street racer towing. Going fast costs money because once you get more power you will be breaking stuff and it is a never ending cycle. To much power still ain’t enough. Dig deep it’s only money

Sorry, I kinda hijacked the OP's thread

I kinda hijacked the OP's thread, sorry. Curious though, @Wild one do you think I could get away with a T4, minimal boost (maybe 6 psi) on the stock fuel pump? Would I need to upgrade to the injectors (I have a matching set that came with the 6.4 manifold) or could the 5.7 ones keep up? I'd have to fabricate piping to make the on3 kit fit my 6.4 manifold, or probably just be easier to go back to the 5.7 manifold. Honestly, it's just the fuel pump work that's putting me off from doing a turbo.

I'd talk to Mike Anthony Walker for a turbo if you're in the US.On3's kits don't have the best of reps.Mike will be able to answer all your questions

Looks like Mikes page is still under work, but his phone number is listed

Took him 4 years to get it together and finally running right, but right now he holds the record for a 4th Gen in western Canada ;)
