For those that have used plasti dip, how long does/did it last? Did high pressure car washes affect it? I have a back rack headache rack that im putting on my 2014 that needs re finishing. I was also thinking of using a DIY bed liner like heiculiner.

Plasti-Dip is durable but not something I'd use on a back rack. Do the bedliner.

Get it powder coated if you can. Powder coating is VERY durable and something like that would probably be rather cheap. Especially if you do it in black which is the most commonly shot powder they can typically throw it in with another job like a fence or railing. I always have my stuff done like that. It doesn't typically matter the color on my projects but it almost always ends up black or gray because it is cheaper.

I have had plastidip on my wheels for almost a year now. Sure it holds up to a car wash, but it's not something I'd do on a headache rack. If you handle it it'll mot likely rub off. Paint, or powder coating is probably your best option.

So its not very durable if you are handling or tying stuff to the rack? If thats the case, plasti dip is off the list. I thought about powder coating but don't know what it would cost. I can get a new backrack for $225 so not sure if it would be cost effective going that route.

Yeah I wouldn't use plastidip on something like a headache rack. Something that would be a little less hands on would be fine but not in this case.

I blasted and sprayed the wheels on my Jeep with Duplicolor aerosol bed liner a couple of years ago and it's held up great. I'm planning to do the rock sliders once the weather warms and I can get the old and flaking powder coat blasted off. I have the black primered bumpers on my Tradesman and I'm going to spray them with it as well.

Spray on bedliner is durable enough. Just prep your rack well to obtain the best result.

Yeah, that's what I was going to post. It's durable but if handing stuff on it and put stuff up against it. It will start to chip off.

Thank you for that info! I have been wanting to plasti the chrome running boards on mine but wasn't sure how long they would last and if it was worth it or not.

I have plastidip on my rims and has held up perfectly fine through our brutal Jersey winter where the snow was half way up on the rims and tons of salt was laid out. Same on my girls car as well, though the front emblem on her car is starting to wear off, mine is still going strong.

Hell, if it can handle Miami heat then should be fine up here. Awesome news.

My Chrome grill has been plasti-dipped for about 6 months. No problems at all in heat or any chips yet..lol

Is it really easy to remove ?

And to paint a grill how many can I will need ?

Is it long to dry ?

Almost all my front end is disassembled because I'm painting my upper bumper. too bad that the plasti dip is 20-25 $ a can in my local store. I will order them on internet asap.

Yeah, it's easy to remove. The more coats it seem to make it bond better and wont come off in pieces. Just one big chunk...

I used two cans and that gave me 4 coats with some extra.

It drys like normal spray paint. Dry to the touch in about an hour and takes I think 8 hours to fully cure.

Plastidip is silly expensive in Canada, pretty ridiculous. Best bet is to order off the net, or cross into the US like I do. Ace hardware has them for 8$/can!

As for the grill, i had half a can left from last year and it did my grill and front ramhead just fine, all with 4-5 coats.

Good luck!

Ive just finished my coat of plasti dip and glossifier. Does it stick more when it completly dry ?

For now it's seems filmsy. Hope tommorow it will be better, because for now it not seem like it will survive a car wash.

Do you have some advice for when I finish to put the coats and the moment it will be dry ?

thanks
