low temps in the north east today. Had trouble getting up the driveway in 2wd so i engaged 4wd. As I did I was slowly sliding backwards.
As soon as the 4wd progress image disappeared on the dash it said service 4wd system. I got up my driveway and turned the truck off.

later in the day I started the truck with no issue. no serve light etc.

Then out of no where after the truck was idling for a few minutes I get a service EBS message. I tried to engage 4wd to get up the drive way again and I can not engage 4wd. Really bothering my i have a 2wd PW right now.

Anyone have a clue what could have happened? I wondering if I blew a fuse or something simple. Any help would be really great guys.

Thanks

Peter.

Unfortunately, you're going to have to scan for codes to get a direction to take. Seeing as though you have a power wagon, thus the manual transfer case, my wild guess would be a malfunction in either the connection of the front axle, or something not allowing the connection of the front axle.

Best bet is to have someone competent get the codes for you. If you're competent in diagnosing, take it from there. IF not, pay someone competent to diag the issue.

That sucks man. First of all, I would pull the battery cable and erase the codes. Try again. If it comes back, run it to the dealer. I would always check for a fluke first.

If your abs speed sensor or wire gets damaged, 4wd will not engage. Check there.

We have a manual transfer case I thought, sure feels that way when I put it in 4X4. Am I just flipping a switch?

The lever is connected to the transfer case. The Center Axle Disconnect is electronic. No CAD lock-up, no 4WD.

The CAD itself is very reliable. I think it’s more likely you have an issue with one of the sensors that gives the CAD permission to lock up.

The way this whole issue started makes me believe it is a simple correction. I hope I am right. Also it seems like I can get 4wd Low to engage just not 4wd hi so again that could be a sensor or something electrical.

When put it in low, the tcase does its job... but the CAD most likely is still not locking up. So you have a free 2-low kit lol!

Sounds like t-case position sensor. Common problem.

Absolutely would agree, but very limited info so far.

I really wish I could have got the power wagon, but got as close as I could with what I've got now.

I also really wish there was no CAD on the PW model. I fully realize the trade off of having CAD, and no CAD, and I think the reliability of a fully connected, solid front axle, and manual transfer case, definitely outweighs the constant backfed front driveshaft, and loss in fuel economy. Its a plus the front shaft isn't turning at highway speeds, but really...are you buying a power wagon for any type of fuel economy?

I will update tomorrow for sure. Does your ram not have a CAD?

Get rid of the CAD with a 1 piece shaft, and put lockouts on it. BOOM.
