PO481 code/check engine light comes on every time it rains and it turns off when everything is dry.

I have a 2012 Bighorn 4door 5.7 Hemi 4x4 with about 105,000 miles on her , so keep having a check engine light / PO481 code coming on when every it rains and says on for a day or two sometimes less sometimes more and then turn off , PO481 code is for a relay for cooling fan #2 I have replaced this 2x and still have the same thing on when it's raining and off when it's dry, I checked the cooling fan and it's working good it's not over heating it's turning on and off with no problem A/C working good as well , if anyone has any suggestions as to what going on please jump in and give me a hand I really would appreciate.

Does the fan run continuously when you start the truck?

If your problem arises when it rains then it is safe to assume that water ingestion is a big problem. My guess would be water ingestion into the TIPM and it is causing a radiator fan control circuit short to voltage and the fan begins to run constantly.

I would start by looking at the bottom side of the TIPM to see if there are any exposed wires.

Jerm317, I too have code po481 come up. Don't just think it's a relay, not in my case. My truck is 2011 ram 1500 4.7lt 4x4 quad cab Bought the truck used at the dealer on 9/18/18 with 76,300 miles. Code came up 2 yrs after I bought it. No water in mine,, bone dry.. I tested the coolant fan relay - tested good. Disconnected fan harness and jumpered out fan, l let the fan run for 5 mins to make sure it was working like it should- fan is good. I tested everything I could think of, still couldn't fix and with the check engine light on I can't pass emissions. So I took it to repair shop. $534.00 later still not fixed. Let me explain. Repair shop calls me, says my clutch fan not putting out enough rpm's and says it needs to be replaced so they can continue to troubleshoot it. So I let them replace the clutch fan. Repair shop calls me 2nd time, tells me my relay for the coolant fan is bad- (I knew it was good) and told them I tested the relay with a volt tester. They still wanted to replace it and said they use o.e.m parts and had to ordered the relay from dodge dealership- (3 day wait.) They replace it and again no fix. Then they replace the coolant sencer- no fix. So they say they need to do a diagnostic test on it. So they send my truck to their diagnostic shop. 4 hours on diagnostics and come back saying I need a new TIPM- Totally integrated power module - aka - black relay box. $1,517.00 for a brand new Tipm. What I didn't tell u is I have an extended warranty I paid for when I bought the truck. So repair shop calls my warranty. An inspector comes out to repair shop. I guess this warranty I have sends out an inspector to make sure the part they want to replace is faulty. Repair shop wants to show the inspector a pin test on my Tipm. Now the repair shop said the pin test would take 2-1/2 hours. Inspector doesn't want to wait around that long so he leaves repair shop and declines my claim saying it only takes 10 mins for a pin test on a tipm. So I couldn't get my truck fixed since obviously I don't have $1,500 laying around. $534.00 for the diagnostic and the parts the repair shop replaced had to put on my credit card. I take the truck home, find a company that rebuilds Tipm's. Note: not all tipm repair shops r the same. The first 2 shops I called gave me the run around and were so rude. The third tipm shop I called were honest and nice. I ended up sending my Tipm to them - (Automotive circuit solutions in Missouri) have their address here somewhere. 2 day turn around, they went over my tipm, called me and told me my tipm was testing good. (Damn repair shop needs to send their techs back to school.) I also asked them to check the fuel pump relay since they had my tipm and I read online that dodge ram was good for the wrong relay for the fuel pump that it would at some point fail. So I had them change out the fuel pump relay. U can't replace the relay urself since the relay is soldered to the circuit board. ACS repair shop charges $75. to test ur tipm when the other shops charge $84. plus $195. for new fuel pump relay. At ACS if u need other repairs they include the $75. To change out the correct fuel pump relay they charged me $150.00 for everything. Very nice people to do business with. I recommend if u need that service, stay clear from Maks tipm repair, rude people and they don't care about u the way they talk. They advertise on Facebook. So I had to reset my tipm after I installed it. U basically have to drive the truck for a long time, 50 to 100 miles but also cycle the truck - start it up, drive it 20 miles, turn it off, then drive it more. Cycle it for like 5 days every day to let the pcm read the tipm. I hooked up a OBD computer to mine to watch when they reset. Their are 5 different components to reset - cat, egr, eva, htr, o2's. 4 of the 5 components reset already, still working on the o2's and it's been 4 days now. I think I need to test my o2 sencers with my volm tester, I could have a bad o2 sencer and it won't reset with 1 being bad. My ram has 4 o2 sencers. I read u can clean o2 sencers BUT only with film free solvent like throttle body cleaner. (Antifreeze will kill a o2 sencer.) Hope this helps ur situation.
