We have seen Ram recently move eco diesels to heavier oil due to internal issues, and we have similar issues with hemi's and Cam/lifters imo. So just curious to see a poll on oil weight. If you go heavier then 5w20 have you ever had any issues? Trying to see how many people have had any issues with a heavier oil with these mds engines that are supposedly dependent on 20 weight oil. The poll closes in a year and you can change your vote if you end up with a check engine light.

Thanks in advance for your participation.

I started with 5w20, then moved to 5w30, and then I went from 5w30 to 10w30 and no CEL's - so far.

I started with 5/20 but since then I've run PP, Amsoil SS, and now M1 EP all 5/30's with no MDS problems. The 5/30's also cured alot of the noises I was getting. Little to no fuel milage difference and if anything engine runs a little cooler.

I have a 2500 with the 6.4 so they state ONLY 0W-40 & special specs of which I think there are only 2 oils out there that meet these specs. Something to do Unicorn Tears?!? LMAO

Running 4 PUP 5W20 and 3 PUP 0W40 right now (around a 3W28) but I will be changing the oil in the next few weeks.

I might run 7 PUP 5W30 or I will mix again but run either 4 or 5 of the 0W40 because is has more moly than the 5W30.

I have around 3700 miles on my currant OCI and the motor is nice and quiet on my mix.

Both oils are serving/served me well.

You may want to change the title of this poll to 5.7 and/or 1500 model specific if that's the data you're looking to collect. The 6-banger and 5.7 only account for 2 of the 5 engines installed in Rams across the 4th gen lineup. Coincidentally, they are the only two in which the manufacturer has specified the use of a 20wt oil.

Going to update my previous post. Have now went back to 5/20. The 5/30 ran good, no cel, everingthing good except cold starts. On cold starts it sounded like rocker arms running dry till the oil got pumped up there. Put M1 EP 5/20 in and no more noises. SS 5/20 on the shelf to go in next oil change.

Anywhere from 50 to 15. The temp didn't seem to make that much difference. On the initial start it would be quiet for for 4 or 5 seconds then you could hear the rockers for a couple of seconds, then it would get quiet again. Outside temp didn't seem to matter. On a restart after engine was warm it wouldn't do it. Now with the 5/20 everything is quiet.
