Im looking to build something like this. Any guesses on how long and wide this trailer is?

I would guess about 18-20ft long and at least 6ft wide...

Have any of you guys done anything like this?

Edit: Just so you guys know what I'm working with.

80/96” wide and 24’ long.
Couldn’t tell if it’s a gooseneck or bumper pull.
I thought about building something similar a few years ago but it was gonna be a lot longer though. I couldn’t find a suitable donor(pop up) trailer so I squashed the idea.

Im looking for a bumper pull. This is exactly the kind of setup im looking for. Im thinking of just finding a trashed travel trailer and only using the frame. Reinforce where needed and let her roll.

Thanks for the comment. This gives me an idea of the length and width ill need.

I really like the idea behind that rig. Nice multi purpose plan.the trailer with the right colours, home decking and well design railing would work out nice for me. It can be done to look factory and also be weight conscious.

Yep. The railing can be removable and put inside the tow strap hook points on each side and you can use the trailer itself as a nice front porch for the pop up.... Just dont build camp fires on it!

I kept having things like that pop up when I was looking for my toy hauler. Do a search for "pop-up toy hauler" Might find a good used one, and save you the trouble of building one.

All the newer ones seem to have the load area in front. Some of the older were in the back though.

Fleetwood Scorpion seems to be a name that keeps popping up:

I hadn't seen the custom route until now though, seems to be quite a few others doing the same thing. One picture looked like about an 8x20 flatbed trailer, with rails, and a popup sitting on the rails in the front. Don't see why it couldn't work if you have the time and skills to do it.

Maybe look at a high/low style camper (Trailer Manor) That would work too.

I don't know if this would suit your needs better, maybe another style option. I was looking at these too when I had a project truck.

That's what I was thinking for the deck.
You only need an opening in the railing where a transported vehicle driver's door is when strapped down. The back ramp can have recessed stairs in the center between the toad tire tracks run.
The patio/deck only needs to support standard home deck loading except where the tire track needs vehicle load support. Inverted 10" recessed channel would guide the tires and hinged flip over cover plates could fill the groove when vehicle not present.
Going to start drawing that up today.

I think an old travel trailer frame would be perfect. Find one about 28ft. with 6,000lbs axles. Reinforce where needed... I'm going to call around tomorrow and see where somebody might acquire such a thing.

I found a 32ft FEMA trailer frame for $175, but it only had 3,000lbs axles. Those things are everywhere around here.

Right at 8ft wheelbase. I could see it being around 12ft bumper to bumper. I'll get a good measurement this weekend.

You could probably get away with a frame from a 26ft'r. 29-30ft overall length tongue to tail....probably already know that though...

That is definitely a gooseneck. Can see the pin peeking. Dont know the length, but 8 bolt axles , probably a standard 96 inch wide trailer. Judging by the frame rails , 8 bolt wheels and being a gooseneck its probably a 10-12k trailer.

A couple of thoughts: Most pop-ups have a body quite a bit longer than 8ft, so placing it on the trailer sideways isn't gonna work. Also, the roof may need some rework with the latches etc to withstand 70+ mph winds perpendicular to its original design.

Here's another idea:

gooseneck-trailer-camper-jeep.jpg

Obviously you could use a pop-up truck camper to lower the profile.

Something like this on the front half, and then you would have room on the back half for the Jeep.

When your not using it, you can collapse the top down for storage and what not. You might even get away with having it down when towing with the Jeep on the back....get rid of the hand railing if it isn't integrated. The lower half only looks to be about 8ft??? Parking spots are usually 7ft wide just guestimating. Folded down the top part maybe 11-12ft overall length???

Might be a nice little option if you can find one in a deal....just an idea.

Weight from the factory for the jeep is 3,200lbs... Im probably pushing between 4,000-4,500lbs with the added stuff, tires, winch, bumpers, cage and whatnot.

Ive been looking for RV salvage yards in Louisiana or Mississippi all morning and cant find anything. They are everywhere else in the country except near me.
