Possible plenum failure or something different.

Alright so I'll get right in to it.
I have a 1999 Dodge ram 1500 with a magnum v8 5.9

When I start the truck it has a loud sucking sound. Almost like a vacuum leak but I have zero symptoms of a leak. I did just put in a k&n air filter so Idk if that's what I'm hearing.

Truck idles at about 600 rpms. Idk if that's normal or not.

When I stand on the gas. It feels like there's no power. Like the transmission didn't kick down to a lower gear.

Any ideas? I'll add more as I come across them.

Could be the air cleaner. A plenum leak will suck oil as a rule.
But for what its worth a K&N is a very poor choice of air cleaners. I don't have the time but in short on an 02 Dakota 4x4 after running a K&N for about 15,000 miles I had so much fine dirt in the TB & intake tube I had to completely tear everything from the air cleaner back to removing the TB to clean it. Had to clean the intake the best I could.

What do you suggest as a better performance air cleaner. I don't particularly like the old fashioned Fram or anything like that.

Did you use the actual CAI or the drop-in filter? If you used the actual CAI you might have some binding issues with the transmission kickdown cable. Can you get it to rev in park any?

Make sure you have a cool seal on your box and make sure the linkage isn't binding any.

It's located on the throttle body. Make sure you can rev it in neutral first, if not, we have something else going on.

It's revs up fine. I'm saying while in driving like in second gear it won't kick down when I stand on it.
