Yea, when towing with the 5.7, it really isn't about power unless you want a performance truck. It is really more about handling. I went with the LT tires (stock size) and a Hellweg to stiffen up the rear and get rid of that soft squishy body roll thing. I do have a pulsar, but run it in economy all the time just to get rid on throttle lag, and I get 11/13 when towing hand calc.
Whatever you do, be safe and sane.
Oh. My apologies. In your original comment my dyslexia must have kicked in and I thought you said don't go with LT tires lol. But I have been looking at the pulsar. Only thing is all the videos I've seen show that top center screen shows the tune your under. But while towing I use that spot for my speedometer. Would switching it over to show my speed keep the selected tune (towing in this case) in place? Also just to make sure I wouldnt mess anything up. Would you still use the tow/haul switch while towing using tow tune? Or does tow tune already activate it? I've already tried emailing Diablo about this and they haven't gotten back to me.

Seriously, for me if you are not messing around go Supercharger. Do a mild boost level on a decent tune and it would be awesome.

******** around with just engine add-ons is not going to net any "real" gains unless you do a bunch of them together and that is going to cost $$.

I might get flamed but adding just - headers or intake or or or is usless unless you put them all together.

Just for reference. Trailer, 8000#=at least 960# tongue weight. Stuff in bed, probably close to 300#. Add 300#+ for 2 passengers and you come up 1560#. Don't know your exact payload capacity but I would bet you are right near it. My personal limit on my Eco Diesel is 6000#.

I only meant 7-8k depending on how loaded my trailer is. If I know if im at a place with hook ups I'll be 7k but if I'm loaded up full tanks and everything my trailer will be closer to 8k. My truck can pull almost 11500. so I know even 8k is well under my limit and I have no plans to get even close to my limit in the future. the bags I installed are already heavy duty ones. I belive the brand is max air. I went to get some and just so happened the heavy duty ones were on sale cheaper than the normal duty ones.
If you do tires, go one size up and get load range "E" meaning 10 ply. You wont regret that.

If you go with the Pulsar, you can just adjust the screen controls as to what you see, and when using Tow mode you will still need to acivate the manual switch. One thing also about the Pulsar is that you can turn off the MDS in each mode. You will really feel a difference in your pedal response also. If you want even more information and monitoring you can add the CTS3. Also yes improving tires to LT will help with better load handling.

When you set up the pulsar you have to use the top center for the mode settings indication. It instructs you to set it to radio/music, and only shows the mode temporarily. It can probably be changed to whatever you want after you set the mode you want, but then using the up/down on the CC without CC being on, you wouldn't know if you changed modes. I use the center DIC for my speed, but I need BIG numbers for quick reference. Old eyes. I never use the trucks tow haul, and have never had any problems, but did use the pulsar tow haul once on a long pull and it dropped me into limp mode. Just shut truck off, restarted, changed mode, and no problems after that. I feel I get better MPG and the truck handles the tow fine, but I haven't pulled in steep slow mountain roads either. I think that is where tow/haul would be really needed.

Just some bolt on stuff I did to my 5.7 Ram 1500. AFI cold air intake. Throttle body ported and polished. I had single exhaust and installed cat back dual exhaust. Had to buy the bumper with the cutouts for the dual exhaust . Kooks shortie headers that replace original exhaust manifolds. I did one thing at a time so I can feel if there is a difference . yes there is . Throttle body was a huge increase and so were the headers. just with those bolt on's I probably picked about 50 ponies or more. I can definitely feel the difference in low end torque. I was thinking about getting the heads ported and polished. that would be a huge increase. I just wanted to open up the engine and let it breath. Not going to mess with the cam & computer as of now . I will be towing a small RV soon (19 FT) so I wanted a little extra power.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet but 6.4 manifold. Seemed to help a good bit in the low end even before I got a tune. 2017 5.7 4wd quad cab lifted on 35s.

I would say get it weighed and you will know exactly where you stand. my truck is similar to yours and it weighs 5960# with just me and 1/2 tank of gas. subtract that from the 7200# max and I have just 1240# left for hitch, trailer tongue, wife, the rest of the 33 gals. of fuel and any supplies I plan to put in the truck. so 1240#-120# wife - 40#hitch- 580# tongue wt.- 120# fuel to fill tank leaves about 260# for gear and firewood etc. you can quickly get up to the max.
