I'd like to do two projects in the bed.. and need power..

  • Switched: Installing led strips under the bed rails. Putting a switch on it, but i want switched power so i dont accidently leave them turned on. Key will have to be in for them to function.
  • Constant: I want to install invertor outlets in the bed as well. Will use a switch, but want constant power. Tailgating, and the like..

Where can i find both?

Theres a 12v wire that's always hot in the 7 pin trailer wiring harness
It's the red wire in the 3rd gen harness
If your looking at the bumper from the back of the truck it's the wire coming off the top right pin

Okay. Any thoughts on switched..?

Just thinking.. for an inverter, i'll mostly need to run a new circuit.

How bigs your invertor, anything close to a 1,000 watts should be fed directly off the battery, not trailer wiring.
Run 10G or bigger fused feeds to your battery is your best bet if you want any amount of power back there.
Relay your power if you want to switch it at the back of the box

Did only one side and has plenty of light. The finished product is cleaner than the picture shows. I ran a wire from the trailer plug. I even left it on overnight by accident but being LED didn't drain the battery.
