So I went and took my truck in for a safety, it didn't pass. One of the main reasons they say my power steering box is leaking and would cost me 900$ w/labour for a new one. Well a quick ebay search finds me a new/reman unit to be roughly 200$ for an ACDELCO brand one to boot, before I go and buy this, was manual steering ever an option on these trucks? Apart from the obvious drawbacks is it at all possible to convert it to manual steering?

The truck in question is a 1988 D100, 318 and an auto. Cheers all.

find another shop to safety your truck lol. that is definitely a rip off. yes a steering box will cost $700 if you buy it at a local parts store but you will get $400 back when the core is returned the core so it sounds like they were going to try screwing you out of $400 more than they should have. if you want to do it yourself you could probably fix the leak yourself. your issue is most likely just a leaky input shaft seal. it is a very common issue. you may also want to inspect the steering coupler. it may be in need of a rebuild and you need to take it off to replace the input seal or replace the steering box. as far as parts go you might want to check out rockauto.com. i find they can sometimes be way cheaper than the local stores. just got to what out for the shipping icon to try getting it all shipped from 1 location

you need to use the proper brackets that they don't advertise:roflsquared:. [yt] and [ /yt] without the space using only the stuff after the / in the youtube address.

I JUST discovered that earlier this morning... and was looking to come back & embed that video! :naughty:

It was too funny (and relevant!) NOT to, but you got 'er done for me, so we'll leave it at that! :favorites13:
