ok fellas. finally got into my new place so im going to start overhauling my trucks power train here soon after I buy a cheap car for work.

im planning to put in a BRAND NEW 5.9 360. I would like to know some mpg increasing modds and power mods without killing mpg. and I would also like to know which transmission I should get. keep in mind I do haul a 20ft car hauler every year with a heavy ass 67 gto on it. so with all that in prespective shoul I get the nv3500 or the nv4500 or the nv5600. I do drive to fl every year too. would the nv5600 help with mpgs with the extra gear or is it just a granny low gear?

any input or good modd ideas are welcome :)

So you're going from a 360 to a new 360? Hmm.....you need more engine mods if that's the case. :D

NV5600 won't work on the V8s due to the fact that is was only available on the Cummins trucks. Go with an NV4500HD (I think HD...may be the LD) and a NP241DLD t-case. Then go with a D60 swap front and rear with 4.56s and a locker when you start breaking stuff. :naughty:

No, do 4.56.

Your tires won't thank you, but everything else will. lol Even with a manual, it'll still be doggy compared to 4.56s

Mopar M1
Cam or Harland Sharp 1.7 roller rockers....or both if the cam profile is right
Better heads, Clearwater Iron Ram heads are preferred
Double roller timing set, I don't care if the engine is "new", stock parts are a load of crap in that regard
52mm throttle body
Good plugs and wires

Anything else is getting more intense...even a cam is a pain, except for when the engine is out.

Turbo is a beast in and of itself...complete pain. lol
will elec fans help?
I'd do an e-fan for sure. Makes the A/C work better and keeps the stress of the water pump.

so no go on turbo :bawl:

It's a lot of work. There's a thread with a turbo 360 build on Dodge talk in the performance section if you want to take a gander at what that guy is doing.

The NV4500 would be a minimum.
I disagree with the inability to run the NV5600, I'm sure with enough research you could find the proper bell housing.
You can bolt most any New Venture up to something with enough effort.

The OD is the NV5600 is .73 where the NV500 is .75.
Minute difference. The big difference is that there are more gears to row through, kept the Cummins in the powerband better. (no big jump from 2nd to 3rd)3

This could be useful for towing with a 360 as well.

There are adapters I think. Apparently the NV4500 has two different patterns: one for the V8 and one for the V10 and Cummins.

Mark (Merc225hp) is going to be working on a groundbreaking adapter to fit a Cummins/V10 NV4500 to a V8 gasser. :D

Don't you already have a built auto? Says so in your sig.....lol

The 46RE is pretty parasitic, but that can be helped with a shift kit and a GOOD torque converter.
