Are you guys using 87 or 89 octane. When I tow my 5500lbs trailer I was getting 26.5 l/100 km. (8.8mpg) that was with 87 octane at 100 km/hr. (62.5m/h)

My son used higher octane on the way back from North Dakota. His company pays for his gas so he went with the better stuff. He didn't hand calculate but his EVIC was between about 8-10MPG towing his 26' 8500lb camper

The octane thing goes around these boards somewhat frequently and as it pertains to MPGs it's pretty much a wash with the increase in price and increase in mileage. Costs 3% more and gets you 3% better mileage. The non-ethanol premium has gotten me the best mileage. Or, more to the point, my mileage sucks every winter when they put that crap in the gas. 10% ethanol = 10% worse mileage. I'm still trying to figure out what the point is.

I tend to use 89 octane when towing, but I also tow in the heat of the summer. MPG doesn't change much but the performance is a bit better with 89 under those conditions on my truck.

"You will get better mpg going west to east due to tail wind."

You can kiss that theory goodbye if you are traveling with me :(
Last 2 trips (Pa to Co & back and PA to WY & back) I have driven into a headwind going both directions almost the entirety of both trips.

I get 8 or 9 towing a 10000 ib T/T. Maybe 14 suburban driving. Maybe 18 on the highway downhill with a huge wind behind! Does anyone run premium fuel? Just wondering if it makes any difference besides emptying your wallet faster....

My son runs premium but only because his company pays for all of his fuel. Can't really compare apples to apples because he doesn't check his mileage and doesn't have any data with regular fuel. We towed his TT 1400 miles and I hand checked 4 fill ups and were between 8.0 and 8.5 going 65-70 MPH. Total weight on the CAT scale was 16,180lbs
