Problem with the paint on my new 2013!!

I just bought a new 2013 Laramie, I have had it about a week. Today is really the first nice day I have been able to get it cleaned up really well, clayed, waxed, etc. and taken a good look at her in the sun. Guess what... The passenger side on the cab around the doors and below the windows has metallic paint in it! Is not to be found anywhere else on the vehicle except in high concentration around all 3 pillars and top of the doors on the passenger side. UGH... Went to the dealership, had my salesman and the shop manager take a look. They took a bunch of pictures and said they would have to involve a factory rep. What should I expect? Paint the whole truck with the correct color? Paint just the effected areas with the correct paint? Have the whole truck painted in metallic, it is a sweet looking color. Get a different truck? I am really ticked to have to deal with this on a brand new truck. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions? I tried to capture a pic but it is really hard to see in the camera. Thanks for any advise.

Man it would sound like they wouldn't want to repaint it since it would cost more money. I'd say either a new truck or discount your price.

PX8, so I think it should be regular black clear coat.

In the dealers defense, you didn't have to buy that truck. They make 100,000's of trucks and everyone can't be perfect. It is kinda on you for not seeing that when you test drove it, so whatever process you have to go through is on you. But, I would expect Dodge to fix the problem for you and I would wager if they didn't you would have a shot in small claims court. May this be the worst problem you have this year, and good luck with it.

They won't repaint the entire truck, my brother had a similar problem and they repainted the area, it was a Chevy though. They ended up repainting it twice because the first time they forgot the clear coat. other then the paint, how do you like the truck?

I understand that I accepted delivery and signed for the truck. The day I bought the truck, and most of the days after, it has been cloudy and poor weather. It is almost impossible to see without bright light or the sun. Once it is in the sun, the metallic flecks pop, as they should. I looked the truck over very closely upon delivery, but didn't even think to look for differing color in the paint, but I was looking closely for other defects. Lesson learned, look at your new vehicle in the sun if possible before taking delivery!!,

I still think this is the best ruck at have ever owned. The ride is exceptional, the technology can't be beat, the power is so much better than the 5.3 in the chevy, and I think the overall look of the truck is the best out there for half tons.

Yup, that is exactly how I feel about mine. That is why in 2010 it was truck of the year, and again your year 2013 is again truck of the year. Hope you solve the issue and enjoy your new truck! Teachable moment on that paint for sure. Keep us posted on what the dealer does for you.

Oh yeah, print out the weather report and see if you can't get last weeks too. If you went to small claims I'm pretty sure that would help. Just in case the dealer doesn't fix it.

I had a similar issue when I picked up my 2012 Sport. It was 8:30pm when they tried doing the dealer prep. They washed and then tried waxing it while it was still dripping and seeping water from everywhere. I ending up having to go back a week later for "customer due" items, well in between taking delivery and bringing it back I found several little things I would not accept on a brand new truck that I just couldn't see at night or, like you mentioned in the cloudy days that followed.
I had to work the dealer pretty hard to get them to address all the little things (minor scratches, nasty swirl marks, mud in places it shouldn't be etc..) They also tried to rush through it. At the end they tried to charge me $60 for switching my tires to black walls and detailing. After arguing I told them I would pay the $60 but they will never see my truck again, for maintenance, parts or anything. It was amazing how fast their tune changed. The next day the service manager gave me a rental, on the dealers dime, and spent a day perfecting my truck.

Granted, repainting is a totally different animal but if the dealer wants your business they will work to keep it.

looks like paint is a 4th gen chronic problem. I had my entire roof repainted by the dealer. It too over 2 months for the OK to come thru Chrysler. You have to keep bugging them after they do the claim. THe dealer alone will not do it unless Chrysler says so.

Not gonna get in to a long story here but a friend of mine bought a brand new 2011. picked it up took it home and 2 days later noticed the top of his truck had been repainted at some point. He took it back talked to the manager and 3days later had another truck.i think it might be all about how you approach it. You paid 40+ grand for that truck they either fix it or give you another one end of story....just sayin.

Are you sure it's different paint? Maybe try clay baring it...might just be contaminants embedded into the paint.

I appreciate all of your comments. I did clay bar it, it is metallic fleck in the paint, under the clear. Looks exactly like the brilliant black metallic. The dealer called me back this afternoon and apparently their shop manager has seen this before, on other rams. They have to get a paint specialist from cooperate to take a look an help out with the claim. I will keep you posted on how it goes.

which dealer? Hopefully not Royal Gate.........their service manager single handedly made me a non customer now. Sucks too.........5 vehicles in 5 years. That ******* just cost them a lot of money.

Chrysler will repaint the affected areas. I have a 11 that had 8" spots in the paint where the metal flake was standing up instead of laying flat. Three different panels. You can get a chrysler rep. dealer should provide you with the phone # for your area. I did and in the long run the only good thing the rep did was giving me 8 free oil changes as a booby prize, when they refused my request to repaint the entire truck.

Paint does qualify for the lemon law, according to my attorneys. However you have to do the 3 or 4 attempts to rectify the problem. My truck spent 21 working days in the shop, during 4 differnet visits, and the inferior quality of re-paint, and other damages done to the truck have led me to a lemon law lawsuit.

If I could do it all over again I NEVER would have cracked the factory paint.
You have to ask yourself is it that bad that I can't live with it.
I have had my truck for 16 months and have been battling the entire time, and there is no end in sight.

Update: talked to the service manager and the regional manager today and they are willing to cover whatever I want done paint wise. Not sure if I want them to try and correct it or just live with it...
