Hello. So I have 23’ bighorn/lonestar. It needed a new door. So I got a Laramie one since it was in white already. It has the button for keyless unlock and lock. I’m not sure if mine came with it or not. Second issue was it came with no keys so I got an aftermarket one installed and programmed for the meantime until I can take to dealer and get an oem one.

Now will it be possible if I could program that door handle button to work or would I need additional stuff? Thanks in advance.

Are you referring to the keyless and go proximity handles where you touch the handle from the outside and the doors unlock? The handle on your Laramie door has a little rectangular button on it?

If this is what you’re speaking of and your BigHorn didn’t come from the factory with proximity handles it can be added. It will require an additional proximity handle for the passenger side. Two proximity antennas, one for each door, a new RF hub, a wiring harness and AlfaOBD to program the upgrade. It may also require different key fobs but that depends on the current fobs you have.

No mine did not come with it. The new door has a button on the door handle yes(driver door) but it doesn’t work so I was wondering if i can just program it or? The door is untouched it came complete off a Laramie and I just assembled it on the truck and everything works besides the button. I can get the obd stuff and I think I need a security by pass? Or would I need antenna things and the rf thing you’re talking about.

All I got is a complete Laramie door with the handle that has the button on the truck as of now. I’m okay with it just being on the driver side so what’s my next step to get it working? I’d love to just add few more things and program and not completely disassemble everything

It can be done. I did it on my 2018 Bighorn that did not come with push button start or keyless and go (the touch to unlock handles). I don’t want to give you bad information because my truck is a 4th generation and yours is a 5th generation. Depending on the fobs you have you may need new fobs. You will need a wiring harness that runs from the RF hub behind the rear seats to the doors. I say doors because I do not know if you can just have one door with a proximity handle. The harness is not sold commercially to the best of my knowledge but it’s not too hard to make your own. You’ll definitely need the antennas to sense the key fobs and again I do not know if you can only use one door handle and one antenna. The 5th generation trucks may have a RF hub capable of adding proximity handles without replacing it, my 4th generation did not. You’ll need a security bypass cable and AlfaOBD to program the system. Using AlfaOBD will also require an android phone or tablet and a OBD port dongle. It can get pricey to add this feature as my 4th generation was about $800 all together.

There is a section of this forum that specializes in AlfaOBD. If you search, “how to add factory keyless and go” you’ll find an exhaustive thread on adding it to your vehicle. I’m sure there are other 5th generation owners that can answer questions specific to your truck better than I can in that thread. Also forum member MPGrimm has many electrical upgrades available to aid in projects. He’s very knowledgeable and may have a wiring harness for your upgrade. Good luck on your project.
