Hey guys I've decided to go with the Bilstien 5100s for my 2016 Ram 1500 sport 4x4 with the 5.7 instead of a 2.5" spacer. But I'm still curious lol, if I add a set of UCA's can I add a smaller 1" lift spacer to achieve just a little more lift? Does anyone here run a setup like this? 5100's, spacer, UCA? My Truck is not wheeled hard just mostly old logging roads for hunting and fishing.

Why don’t you just do a Zone 4” lift, and do it the right way ?

:anitoof: no matter how many times people ask the answer is still no.

You can get away with a lot of janky stuff on a show truck but if you leave the pavement at all including logging roads you're going to regret jankness pretty quickly. If you want more lift than the struts can do on their own you need to go to a "full" lift with subframe and knuckles.

This was really just a question on if I wasn't happy with the leveling kit. Which I'm sure I will be as I said I don't wheel hard so I just want a little more clearance, nicer stance, and some slightly taller tires.

I think you'll be happy with it, little goes a long way really and if you know you're going to want to go big from the gate, well you already know that.

A lot of people run 35's with just the ~2ish inch lift and the tires give you another inch too from their larger radius.

I don't have a link to a discussion handy but over the years I've seen a couple of them where this kind of failure was the result of either a spacer lift or stacked lifts:

IMG_7409.JPG

Because the inner CV cup can only deflect a fixed distance from straight and once it runs out of angle all that force goes into the aluminum differential housing and it cracks.

So that's why lifts for these trucks are always going to be around 2-2.5 inches or else 4+ inches because in between those ranges it's either too much for the CV angles or too little for the minimum subframe drop distance.

Some members here have added eibach coils with their bilsteins set at the 3rd notch for approx 3" of lift. Keep in mind you'll probably need to add a 1" rear spacer or it'll be nose high, even at 2.75"

Adding a small 1/2" top spacer on top of your 5100's should not be a big deal. 5100's are stock lenght struts so you're only making your physical length longer by 1/2 inch. That should be enough to correct a trim issue, correct for a heavier bumper etc. Don't use big spacers unless you have the correction brackets drop diff brackets, hub spindles etc for them. 1/2" spacers are like 1/4 thick, @crazykid1994 can give you a part number for a little top spacer that will work with the 5100's. Most of the issues with spacer come from those doing 2" on top of the factory or worst lifting strut without the appropiate drop brackets. Aftermarket UCA will be needed since you're mimicking an extended lenght strut with a 1/2 spacer, this is not something you should do to anything that is extended lenght already from the factory (RC QL's, Fox 2.0 CO's, Falcon struts, etc) because you'll be over extending your strut assemblies as well.

Correct. I’m using the spacers to accommodate my off-road bumper. I purchased rough country 1/2” top spacers. They were the only ones I found where the center hole was smaller. If the center hole is to large then it allows the rubber bushing in the top strut mount to move around and cause premature wear or failure. My actual lift measurement came out to 3” after everything was said and done. Eibach coils on bilstein 5100 set to the third notch with the strut top spacer. I can’t find the part number but it is included in the rough country 2.5” leveling kit. Not sure if it can be purchased separately. There are other brands that may be cheaper just need to check the center hole where the shaft of the strut sits. My truck has been taken off-road a few times and have not had any issues.

Buying all that sounds like about the same cost as a 4" kit. Lol

It’s not far off but it all depends on your needs. 300$ for the eibach springs. 220$ for both bilstein 5100 front struts. Can’t remember cost on rear shocks but it think was around 120$ for both. Plus I’m running zone upper control arms that cost me 400$. 50$ for the rough country spacers. 1090$ for current setup not including eventually adding in rear control arms. But my truck rides pretty great compared to some of the 4” kits plus I can go back to stock with no issues if need be. Plus I have more ground clearance at the front crossmember. Plus I did it in stages which made it somewhat convenient.
