If your vehicle doesn't get driven much how long should you go before changing the oil?

I change it every 3,000 miles regardless of time.
My truck gets driven a lot (100,000 miles in 2 years) but even my vehicles that sit a lot get an oil change every 3,000 miles.

I think I'm just going to change it with the same oil as the factory puts in. I'll find out what it is. I only have just under 800 miles on the truck and i've had it for 7 months now. It's probably been well over a year since the build date so I might as well. Then I'll go the regular intervals after that.

^^^ if it's your first oil change good luck with the filter. They torque then to about 1000lbs at the factory.(not really but they are a ***** to get off the first time.) I always let the dealer do the first oil change for that very reason.

I change mine every 3000 miles or once a year......usually when I have them do the state inspection.

Yeah, I could do it myself, but for the 50 bucks they charge, I'll let them deal with it. Doing it myself still would cost me ~30 bucks., and I know it is documented for warranty purposes.

Factory fill is supposedly Pennzoil regular oil, many call it Pennzoil YB for the yellow bottle that it comes in on retail shelves.

Yeah lol. On my HD last summer when I did the first change, I couldn't budge the filter by hand. Knew it would be on there good but man, didn’t think I wouldn’t be able to get it with two hands and a good pair of work gloves. Good thing for spare filter wrenches lying around.

I would do it every 6 months, assuming you're not putting enough mileage on before then. Definitely no longer than a year.

It doesn't matter because Mopar doesn't have an oil filter factory it's probably a wix. Whatever it is it's probably a regular paper filter which is comparable to anything you would buy off-the-shelf at the auto parts store. So basically anything you buy at the store that cross references will be just as good a filter probably for cheaper. If you want to get fancy there's a lot of high-end filters that people here on the site recommend Amsoil , royal purple, etc.

You can throw an SRT filter on it. I forget the model # though. I have one on my HD. $13 bucks. Better flow and filtering.
