I just bought a 2012 Ram 1500 5.7L which has around 135k miles. While driving or idling at low speeds the car will shudder and when coming to a stop it'll sort of like lurch to a stop and jitter. Then once it reaches a full stop it'll continue to shake very hard. The spark plugs have already been replaced but when I put a OBD scanner in it was showing a cylinder 5 misfire. Does anyone know a way to diagnose the problem and fix it as cheap as possible?

Did you check, replace the coils when plugs were done? Easiest quick check, change say coil pack 5 with another, and see if the misfire continues on Cylinder 5 or follows the coil pack to wateva one you use? It it follows, U have a bad coil pack. If it doesn't, than you are gonna need a more professional diagnosis.

With 135K on truck, if the coil packs have not been done, and that is the problem, won't hurt to change them all out, just saying. All IMHO.

is that a job id be able to do myself? I just bought the truck today so im not sure if they did replace the coils. If it wasn't the coils let's say do you know what else it might be? Im hoping its not something too expensive, could it possibly be the fuel injectors?

Great advice. fast east way to check and isolate the problem.

If it's shaking as bad as you say, I would also check the motor mounts. Maybe worn or broken allowing extra movement.

FYI, you posted this in the Gen 5 section. 2012 is Gen 4

Very seldom do the coils go bad,and you can do a home rebuild on them to extend their life, same with the injectors they can be cleaned and rebuilt at home pretty easily.Coils aren't cheap and you want to use OEM if you do have to replace one, usually new boots and springs and a cleaning will bring most coils back up to par, i doubt you have a dead one
Swap coils around as suggested,if the misfire doesn't follow the coil, pull the valve cover and make sure all the rockers are moving the same amount and you don't have any broken valve springs.
If you just bought the truck today, you might want to get out of it if possible,as i'm guessing it ended up being for sale because the cam is bad,and it's not a cheap / easy fix if that's the case.
Why in hell did you buy it,if it has those issues,as i'm guessing they were present when you test drove it,if you didn't test drive it,well you learned something today, always test drive any used vehicle, and make sure the test drive is long enough to get it up to temp, and includes some city and highway driving

It could be a myriad of things to include a combo of stuff. U had to have noticed there was an issue when/if U test drove it, I sure hope U did. If not, than to be nice, having a vehicle checked out by a decent mechanic plus your long test drive is a pre-requisite before buying anything used, especially a gasser with that many miles, just saying.

We could Utilize Internet Guessnosis for you all day long, BUT we R not there and U R. If U cannot un-buy it, or are already committed, find yourself a good reputable mechanic and have him/her go over with a fine tooth comb. That many miles, you gotta think other things like transfer case and Diff service, OCI (oil change/filter), air filter, just soooo many things depending upon if the truck was maintained and they kept good records that U have.

G/L on yer adventure.
