So I'm in the process of purchasing a 2022 Ram 2500 limited with the Cummins. Dealer is applying what now is a MFG code for 20% (Bonus Cash NECN1B). My question is when they write the invoice, does this get applied immediately to the price or after tax is calculated on the original price?

It is 20% off msrp, tax is calculated on the final price (after the 20% off)

Are you sure because they say they right it up as full price TAXED then the discount after applied to that amount

Mtnrider is right. It SHOULD be applied to the final price you actually pay. Anything thing else is suspicious to me. Applies even if you are in a different state. You would pay the “sales” tax to your home state. Some dealers can do that for you but not all will.

You guys were goofing off in math class, weren't you. :Big Laugh:In terms of what you pay it would make no difference. $50,000 less 20% is $40,000, add tax at say 7%, $42,800. $50,000 plus tax at 7% is $53,500, less 20% is $42,800.

Then why did you ask the original question???

With this type of problem, you’re going to have all kinds of issues with a Ram. Recommend you check out a Ridgeline or anything other than a Ram.

I asked because I believe the salesman is wrong. I believe it's like @mtnrider stated. I'm gonna go there again today to confirm. Also why would you think I'm going to have all these problems with the RAM?

Did you read what I posted. Why would you care, end result is exactly the same. Save your challenges and negotiation for free mudflaps, floor matts, financing rate, extra fees etc. Stuff that actually makes a difference.

How's it it the same? If the price is 100k and 20% off. I'd rather pay sales tax on 80 than 100. My state is 8.625% but I am definitely wanting mud flaps and such out of them. PS I suck at math lol

80000 plus tax is 86900. 100,000 plus tax is 108, 625, take 20% off is 86,900. Same, same, same. The only one in danger of messing up their profit margins and paying too much tax is the dealership; why would you care?

If you can't figure that out maybe take someone shopping with you cause you are going to be way too easy to take advantage of.;)
I'm not easy to be taken advantage of at all. I was making sure before I went forward. I now understand perfectly and thank you for that. no reason to be a condescending.********

Your forgetting about non-taxable discounts in which the discount is applied after the sales tax is calculated on the purchase price of the vehicle. Using your #s, the total would be $43.500 Rules on this vary from state to state.
