In terms of what you pay it would make no difference. $50,000 less 20% is $40,000, add tax at say 7%, $42,800. $50,000 plus tax at 7% is $53,500, less 20% is $42,800.
Did you read what I posted. Why would you care, end result is exactly the same. Save your challenges and negotiation for free mudflaps, floor matts, financing rate, extra fees etc. Stuff that actually makes a difference.

Your forgetting about non-taxable discounts in which the discount is applied after the sales tax is calculated on the purchase price of the vehicle. Using your #s, the total would be $43.500 Rules on this vary from state to state.You guys were goofing off in math class, weren't you.
