Hello, I have to get a new 3500 pickup. I've always been a Ford fan but I'm intrigued about the Ram new 3500 diesels. What I'm worried about is reliability. I hear that they've had a lot of electronic glitches in the on-board video system. I and the transmission Thank you.

Nothing wrong with the ZF 8 speed that I've heard/read about but I have read of a few glitches with electrical problems but then Ford and GM have their own set of problems so dont think its just Ram who has problems..

I have a 2022 RAM 3500 Diesel 4x4 HO engine and Alsin Transmission. Dealer replaced the entire DEF system within the first 6 months of owning it. Half dozen trips before that all DEF related.

Today the truck is back with the dealer with the K1 problem.

Left stranded 300+ kms from home. Towed to the original dealer.

I don’t know when it will be repaired. 3 days now at the dealer.

This is my 6th RAM in 20 yrs. Use it as a truck and camper.

Note: only has 125,000 kms.

I am re-evaluating my choices.

Why did you not take t in before the K1 snap broke, it was widely known problem and talked about on the many Ram truck an other forums that certain Aisin trans had the snap ring problem, all Ram dealer got several updated TSB about it along with a customer satisfaction TSB, if your truck was in the date range of known problems transmission it would have been fixed for free a long time ago if you had just taken it in to be checked out....

The basic trucks themselves are a crap shoot with all three. Right now Ram has the best transmission hands-down. I have been a Cummins guy for decades, but, sadly, I think it might be the biggest crap shoot of the three engines. There is no evidence that they did anything to address the valvetrain issues that arrived in 2019. The 10 speeds in the other two are an issue, with the GM being the worst, but at least that's not a cab-off repair. I'm sad to say if I had to buy today I'd very likely buy a Ford :-(

It seems to me that RAM is having more problems. Electronic gremlins and sensors on the wheel that are going out and forth. Yes they have a lot of recalls and I know they have problems. I'm just trying to figure out which one to really get. F350 larit 6.7

Well I guess I was wrong about the transmission. I was talking about some of the sensors on the wheels and stuff. I hear the transmission is rock solid. Yeah I'm leaning more towards the 3500. I want to get away from Ford and their CP4s. I can't believe Ford has not changed that stupid pump yet and that 10 speed transmission: it's either hit or miss with that from what I've heard.

The current Cummins uses what they are calling a "CP8" pump, which looks all the world like a CP4, though they swear it's bulletproof. It is definitely not a CP3 variant.

S&S Diesel has their bulletpfoof DCR pump to replace the CP4 on Fords. Bolt-on, no tuning required.

Yes but to have the dcr pump installed is like 5000 extra shouldn't have to pay that on a new truck I got the disaster kid on my old F-250.

$5K sounds like about a grand or more higher than it should. It's still cheaper than pulling the cab to put a Hamilton cam/valvetrain in a Cummins...
