Thats what I thought too, but if you look on any of the Mopar parts sites its lists a different PN for the newer DS trucks

Anyone successfully just swap the air duct? Not seeing the point in changing boxes when you could just do that. Any pictures of the dremel work?

The airbox is cheap enough that most just replace the entire thing

Did this today, one of the easier mods I've done. Took a little extra time to swap over my oil catch can mount to the new lower filter box, but very easy to do.

I just did some data logging for a custom tune and the P-Rat Map pid reached a max value of 0.9961 with the Hemi intake. Everything on the truck is stock aside from a custom tune and ARH catted long tube headers.

Just cut the Charcoal filter out of my 2018 intake upper lid.. it looked dirty.

Used MagicMarker and cut original bottom air box for the larger intake for box fit like a glove.
Noticed the Air Intake Temp is lower, which should result in more umph the change in airflow has to be quite a bit since the size is about half again bigger into lower part of airbox. Plenty of COLD AIR coming in now.

As noted in the first post, the intake restriction is lowered. On a naturally aspirated engine that a good thing, less restrictions of air in can help with making power and better fuel economy.

I've had it for a few years.

There is worse ways to waste money, but no real performance nor MPG improvement.

Pretty much the same as any CAI but for less money with factory components

No, this is 4th gen only. The 5th gens actually have a pretty good setup from the factory. The duct to the airbox comes from the grill area not the fender.

I took a pic of my Trinity with some air intake PIDs to show it flows really well.

These parts cost around $60. So for those that want to keep things all factory parts but want to have a better flowing intake without spending hundreds this is a good choice.

Please note this is not needed on the 6.4 trucks as they already have a lower intake box that uses the bigger Ecodiesel inlet tube.

You can see by the "P-RAT MAP BARO" pid that it hit 1.00 which means the engine is getting air equal to barometric pressure. This means the intake has virtually no measurable restrictions. The OAT was about 35* that day which means the engine is injesting air 7* above ambient temp. "MAP VAC" goes down to almost 0 almost every time the throttle is pressed confirming the P-RAT value.

I'm thinking of doing this as well. I can source an airbox from an auto wrecker. I was also thinking of doing the airbox mod to this box, of cutting a hole in the bottom and running a 3" or 4" pipe to the front grill area if possible. Anyone else tried this with this particular airbox?

I'm running just the stock lower/elbow along with the airaid intake tube. I can tell no appreciable difference between this setup and the vararam intake I was running before. I was also running this same setup before the vararam, so the 6.4 box and elbow along with the intake tube, are solid performers. If I were to do anything, it would be to 3d print an adapter from the air box to adapt to a 3 or 4" hose to run to the grille.

I was looking at a body and frame part-out ecodiesel in the back of the shop, wondering what I could scavenge from it the motor trans interior etc cetra had already been stripped when I thought wait a minute! ecodiesel airbox! I found the lower airbox in the bed of the truck and the intake horn still attached to the body! score!

I measured it at the time of the swap, IIRC the stock hemi lower air box entry was like 3.5 x 4 inches and the ecod/6.4 lower airbox has a 4.5 x 6 inlet hole

Id like to say it makes a difference, definitely feels like it pulls harder when hammering down at mexican speeds, which is logical because high rpm/high engine load is the only time you would ever need more airflow over stock

as a side note i still friggen love this truck as much as when i got it! it drives so well, its quick its powerful its smooth
you can throw it into a corner and it hangs on like a cat on a curtain. insane!

Just to be a stickler......Dodge has not made trucks since 2011. RAM, a brand of Stalantis, makes trucks. Stalantis makes other vehicle brands too such as Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Alfa-Romeo amd Fiat in North America. Yes you buy them at the same dealership. Yes some older dealerships still have "Dodge" in their name. But a RAM is not a Dodge anymore. You would not dare call it a Chevrolet Sierra or a Cadillac Tahoe now would you? I hope you are smart enough to get my GM reference.................
