Well, I purchased my 2004 ram with 133k miles and a check engine light for a short in coil number 5. The seller informed me he had had this issue when he bough it and had the PCM replaced. But, apparently not the coil as I finally got around to messing with it last week, I found that coil number 5's casing was split. The former owner or his mechanic had attempted to glue the coil back together. I replaced the coil and reset the engine computer, the light stayed on. I took it to my local shop for diagnostic and as it turns out, the bad coil that they had neglected to replace has fried the circuits on my PCM. Actually cylinder 5 coil wasn't firing at all, instead cylinder 6 ( I think, don't hold me to that) coil was firing both 5 and 6. (Due to the dual coil/plug setup of the HEMI engine). ANYWAYS, the absolute epitome of laziness of the previous owner and his mechanic has resulted in me spending several hundred dollars on replacing the coil, computer and having it programmed. Moral of the story? Don't be a lazy@$$ when repairing your Ram! Take care of her and she will take care of you and the next owner as well. Rant over.
