Hello,
I have a 2016 Big Horn 2WD with 120K miles. I need some help troubleshooting, and can't find this issue in the search function.
Background: I recently went on a 3 week vacation, and when I got back my truck would not start. I plugged in a start booster power bank to jump it, and it still would not start.
The solenoid wasn't clicking like it was receiving power. When I pulled the relay for the starter solenoid out of the fuse box, a couple of ants came out of the slots. I put a new relay in and the truck fired up, but it said "Service Shifter" with check engine light, and traction control lights on.
I shifted it into reverse, neutral, drive, and back to reverse and they all worked. I backed it out of the driveway, and the steering wheel made a horrible ratcheting noise.
*I was able to use the manual gear select option, and traction control still lets me turn it off and on*
The next morning when it was light out (I work night shift) I opened it back up to discover that ants had made an entire nest in the fuse box. I vacuumed them out, removed the battery, and put a poison bait on the battery tray which seems to have killed them all after about 4-5 days.
I replaced all of the fuses with new ones after spraying some lectra-motive contact cleaner on all of the female slots and letting it dry.
Now the check engine light is gone, and all of the electronics seem to be working, but the traction control light and ratcheting steering wheel remain.
The steering wheel only ratchets when turning it to the right, and only once the tires move enough to get some resistance. The sound seems to be coming from between the wheen and the plastic shroud around the column.
It's approximately 100 evenly spaced clicks from straight forward to full right. I can turn it slow enough to get individual clicks. It sounds exactly like spinning a ratchet.
*there are no codes when I read it with the scanner*
Any help with how to isolate a cause would be greatly appreciated
