Trust me I know about prices lol as I've spent more then that in a set of tweeters alone. I'm happy to see/hear when a customer is satisfied both in the price and the quality of the install. I really want yo bust out the SQ gear for the Ram. But with 145,000 miles on it, I'm kind of hesitant. Maybe I need to just do a basic upgrade and enjoy that for what it's worth. :)

Well what do you consider basic lol. I'm with you I've spent more cash on audio in the last year than I ever care to admit to myself lol.

Interesting project from this weekend finally got done.
2013 Ford F-150 Reg Cab:

Lows: 2 Skar VD 10's in Atrend ported truck boxes off of a Skar RP1500.1. They really boogie. Port velocity can get a little high on some bass heavy songs but all in all not bad.

Mids/highs: The mids and highs are Alpine type are components bi amped on a Skar RP75.4 and man IDK why audiophile guys talk crap about those comps they sounded damn good to me in deadened doors and tweets up in the pillars in stock location. Tweeters could be more detailed and mids could get lower but really for playing loud music they do a great job.

Head unit: Pioneer AVH-x4700 this is a great unit that you can run speakers actively which I did so there were a few more filter options for tuning even though the passive xovers are in place. My customer is still trying to figure the head unit out so we will see what she thinks down the road.

For everything including install I had the cost of the project at less than $1200.00 with local shop rates I pretty much cut the price in half of what they would've charged. So far she is a happy camper and ill see if I can get some pics but at this time she isn't inclined to letting me post up any pictures of what's in her truck.

That's awesome! Proof that the install is more important than the brand on the speakers!

I have a feeling that the mids will play a bit deeper when they break in a little bit but she is still a happy camper.

Read my audio related post in my Holding Back the Tears thread... I'll be talking to you...

But as excited as I am about buying a bunch of audio equipment right now, I should be smart and have the jeep setting in the garage before I start stock piling mods!

Have a buddy will to give up his DC 270 amp alt should be fun and will give me plenty of power to those Italian beauties.

If you really want to step up into a relatively cheap DSP MiniDSP is a great option at least for your front stage.

I keep tossing around the idea of going active and using one of these but I read the manual for the miniDSP and am slightly concerned with its input and output voltage. It says 0.9VRMS output max and I think 2.5V p-p. Also the input is 2V max. My pioneer deck can put out 4-5V. I'm already at 60-70% on my amp input (ranging from 0.2V to 5V) from the pioneer. What do you think?

Pioneer in my experience puts the 4v out at max volume so basically you would have to turn the volume up more to match it and in reality it should be relatively easy to match it. Many people use low input devices without any issues but the quality of equipment matters ie. turning your gain up with there be floor noise from the amps. I know if my wife ever wants an active setup in her car I will be getting one for her so she can play around with it as their software is pretty easy to deal with.

Thanks E. I knew you would put my mind at ease. Now what to do with my $50 credit at sonicelec? By the way, I will be taking out the middle seat belt and back wall to satisfy my need for a little more bass. Debating on keeping the 10 sealed or port it. Its nothing fancy, infinity kappa 10 but I think it sounds decent. Its been a long time since I had a ported box. The slightly under spec'd sealed is not getting low enough. Also debating on a used alpine pdx v9 (missed out on here last week). Thanks for your time, patience and help!

Very welcome, my eyes have been opened to what a decent ported sub sounds like (not talking just loud bass) my new philosophy on porting is if you can fit it do it. The response is so much smoother (again talking about quality sub in correct ported enclosure).
Here is what I would do with the 50 bucks:
XS Power BIG3XP (xsp-big3xp) XP FLEX 1/0 AWG Big 3 Upgrade Kit
If you have the T/S parameters on the Infinity I think I can help you with a box design.

Even though it's probably very difficult, if not impossible, in our trucks, have you heard a true IB set up? I had it in my Challenger and loved the sound. Subs blended in ridiculously smooth.

I haven't but I think it would be a cool experiment with basically IB in the truck bed and make a tuned blow through. Did a little IB with my SI HT18 nothing fancy just put it in a door way in the cut out for the face of the box and it sounded great. Not huge output but nice smooth low end response.

Cool, if you don't mind a little cutting of the back board behind the seats you can easily get 3+ cubes in a box that will fit a normal depth sub.

I'm going to be experiencing this soon too, and I am really looking forward to it... :party36:

As always, thanks for all the great info, E!

I plan on taking out the entire back board and sticking some auto carpet on the wall. So I got the T/S on the sub. The infinity book says to go 1.5 cu ft with a 10.25 x 3 inch port for a 30 Hz tune.

Here are the parameters they list in 2 ohm:
Levc(mH) 1.17
Sd 330 cm^2
BL 12.47
Vas 18.05L
Cms(um/N) 118.0
Fs 33.80
Qms 4.18
Qes 0.51
Qts 0.46

Not sure if it matters but the sub is 10.25 outer diameter with a mounting depth of about 6.5 inches.

Another question regarding the minidsp: Do I need a mic to tune it properly?
Thanks!!!
