Good morning All,

New member and first time truck owner

So I bought my first truck and it came with a 4" RCX lift kit. I noticed when getting in and out of the vehicle there was a squeak coming from the rear of the truck. After some investigating I found that it was the rubber bushing on the driver side rear shock that connects to the frame.

After I had compressed the shock it would not extend and just stays in the compressed position. So I'm looking for two new rear shocks now. I took a couple of measurements while I had the shock off the truck. The rear shock also has a rubber bushing on the piston rod. So I'm not sure what measurements to use. I measured from center to center on the mounting bushings.

Compressed length with rubber stop bushing on the piston rod - 18.5"
Compressed length if the rubber stop bushing was removed - 17"
Extended length - 29"

So I was looking for either some new Bilstein, Fox or Rancho replacement part numbers that would work.

Thanks

im just throwing this out there..but i dont think your rcx shocks are broken, you just have to pull them to make them expand again.

They only cushion the down travel. The springs push it back up.

but he bilseins that would work are B8 5125, but they work the same way as the rcx shock

Thanks for the replies,

I called six places today from a google search for replacement shocks. All but one company told me the B8 5125 are 0-1" lift so they will not work. The last company I spoke with said they have a Fox shock #980-24-647 for a Ford F250 and they'll sell me the right bushings so it will fit my truck.

Thanks kg93,

The Bilstein 33-185569 are definitely the right shock. I ended up buying them from SuperLift.com along with the replacement bushing kit 77-80038. These shocks definitely extent after they're compressed. It was a pain in the butt to compress the shock and put the mounting bolt in at the same time. I had also mounted the rubber boot down in lieu of the body side down per this sites recommendation.

Can I mount Bilstein Shocks upside down?
