I recently had to get some censors replaced on my fuel system and part of the crap replaced was the gas cap. first they put on the wrong one and the truck freaked out so they put on the right one and the check engine light went off but the check gas cap wouldn't go away. The tech said that he did a hard electronic shut down to get the check engine to shut off but it might take a re flash of my truck in order for everything to go away. Anyone hear of this or done re flash to their truck??

I've reset the PCM in my 2007 & 2014 Rams plus my 2006 SRT8 a few times. It's easy.

Disconnect the negative cable on the battery and leave it disconnected for at least 30 minutes. This totally powers down the PCM and resets it.

Any memory settings (seats, mirrors, radio stations, etc...) will also reset.

Does it also reset what it's learned about your driving habits? Are there any negative consequences other than custom settings?

The smart adaptive PCM configuration that gets you the "learned driving habits" get sorta dumb pretty quickly, i.e. if you commute in stop and go traffic, so losing those is no big deal. The PCM "relearns" them with a short drive with some aggressive inputs.

Other than that, and losing those presets mentioned earlier, there are no negative consequences.

Thanks MADDOG. I actually wanted it to lose it's mind completely because it learned how I break in a new engine, not how I really drive.

If I have a custom tune on a 2015 and let's say the battery cable is disconnected or the abttery dies , does that have any I'll effects on the truck?

Return your truck to stock before you power it down.

so I powered the truck down by removing battery cable and the check engine light and check gas cap message on display did come back however, the check engine light throws no codes when I plug the truck in. not sure how to get the truck to accept the new gas cap
