I just purchased a 1999 dodge ram magnum 5.9 4x4 with a 12 inch lift and 38.5 inch mud boggers yesterday and when i was driving home it was making a metal vibrating noise everytime i pushed the gas, let off the gas and u cant hear it.. Well today i got in the truck and drove maybe 30 feet and then a big bang sound and now regardless of the gear when i go maybe 2 feet it does and big jerk like u would hit a good sized pothole or something and the driveshaft that goes knto the rear end is whats jerking... When i stopped after it first did it my neighbor yelled u messed up ur spider gears and ur probably gunna need a rear end, but as for that metal clicking i was hearing on the way home.. Its not making the noise now that the rear end is jerking.... Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be or what i should do, do i replace the rear end?? Will a stock rearend off of another 99 ram 4x4 work for this truck or will i need a more heavy duty rearend to handle the lift and huge tires or does it matter

If your rear end went out you will need, at the bare minimum, a Dana 60 out of a 3/4 ton. I would try to get one from a same year truck. Also have to match the gear ratio with the front

For what you have going on you need a Dana 60 front and a Dana 70 rear diff. The front 60 is a bolt in job almost and the rear does need some fab work so not just a bolt in job.

What is this truck a 1500 or 2500.

Block the front tires, jack up the back end (both tires off the ground, use jack stands) and start turning things by hand until you find the issue.

+1 if its a 1500 those stock axles will snap like twigs. Definitely recommend Dana 60 upgrade if 1500. Need more details on the truck though, what it is, whats all the lift, what gears, etc.
