2001 Dodge Ram 1500 & a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 have different body styles.

Both differentials are 9.25" AAM Differentials
both should have flat springs & shackles.
There is a good chance that they will interchange, just break out your tape measure

Are both differentials off a 2 wheel drive pickup ?

Heavy Duty Dodge Rams, like your 2006, use a larger differential & would not work

If I'm not mistaken, 2001 is drum brake. 2003 is disk brake. So you will need to swap the parking brake cables and the Proportioning Valve near the master cylinder.
I just swapped a 2004 Ford 8.8 disk rear into a 1994 Dakota that was drum. The proportioning valve for the drum rears keeps too much residual pressure on the disk setup so it keeps the brake pressure applied to a point it will overheat the pads. I swapped out the residual pressure spring for a lighter one and it works perfectly now.
For anyone else I'd recommend to just grab the lines and proportioning valve from the donor truck and swap it.
