My 2023 2500 Laramie 4X rear overhead interior light does not illuminate when you open the doors. I have to turn it on by pushing on the lens. Does not come on with the interior light switch on the panel either. Checked the manual and no help there. It appears the only way to operate it is to push on the lens. Is that the way it's supposed to work? My 2004 rear cab light turns on when you open the doors. The 2023 truck is so tall I have to climb in to activate it. And I'm over 6 feet tall.

Not a loose bulb. The truck does not seem to be wired for the light to go on with the door open. I was hoping to see others have this issue with the 5th gen crew cab trucks. Or if it's a malfunction with my truck. You just know the dealer will say they are all like that. May have to go to a dealer lot and check the trucks on the lot.

The online manual is not very clear, like most.

It suggests that if both the 'Dome On' & 'Dome Defeat' buttons are pushed, the illuminated entry will be disabled.

However, below that info, it says there are 3 available options for your truck including the 'Push lens on/off' as one option.

Could it possibly be the combination of the 'Dome On' & 'Dome Defeat' switches?

If you open up your doors and the front map lights come on the rear dome should be coming on also. If it’s not coming on then there’s something wrong somewhere. I haven’t seen a truck yet where the front lights come on the rear dome light should also come on, unless the bulb was just bad or burned out or not seated properly but since you say the bulb works When you push on the lens, then something wrong somewhere else.

I've been too busy lately to follow up on this but will do so today. With the new time zone change it's more irritating than ever. I'm using a flashlight I have in the front door to search the back seat for items in the back seat. What a crock these designers come up with. Obviously non truck users. I'll report back on the results.

I tried pushing the overhead buttons in different sequences and none worked to activate the rear overhead light except pushing on it. I don't believe it's wired to activate with the door open. I thought maybe someone else with a 2023 2500 HD Laramie might weigh in too. Maybe they are all like this. I'll see if I can figure out the UConnect menu without screwing something else up but I really doubt there is a workaround on this.

And maybe it's another Guv'ment thing to keep people in the dark.

Just a little update. I went into UConnect and was unable to find anything that turns the rear interior light on/off but I also have since noticed that my under seat lights do not work now. So I clicked on one function that turned on/off a rear cargo light and the interior lights blinked. So I believ I have a short in the system somewhere. This tells me the read cab interior light should come on with the door open. Further to follow when I go back to the dealer. I'm out of service right now with foot surgery grounding me. Be a while before I can get this truck back to the dealer.

YUP, nothing in U Connect ref interior lighting. There is just timing on turn off engine power and how long for lights to stay on when truck turned off for security/safety, nothing specific to internal rear light.
