Hi,

My truck (2016 RAM1500 5.7l) just went for some recalls (U61 Cruise Control, U07 Auto Park and U53 Occupant restraint controls module) at the dealership.

Prior to the recalls at the dealerships I loaded the original backup prior into the Diablo unlocked PCM.

The Diablo Trinity says that my custom tune (68......AF) is no longer supported and that calibration ID (68...AI) is not supported.

-> Furthermore it asks to downgrade to "68...AF".

What should I do now? Should I really downgrade??
I want to keep the recalls of RAM in my truck but I want to use the Diablo tunes and the custom tunes as well...

Backup PCM & send to tuner for him to apply mods to updated pcm with latest recalls.
If you reflash custom tune it will not have latest recalls.

So it means either the latest recalls and no tune (and MDS) - or - without the latest recalls and with a tune (and no MDS)....

Does it make a backup of the „68....AI“ like it makes a backup of the stock factory tune?

And why is Diablo obliged to downgrade?? They could make an update in their Diablo tuner, don’t they?

If this is a custom tune you will have to get it re-written on the 839AI base calibration or downgrade. If it's the canned tunes then yea Diablo would need to update them, but I wouldn't count on that happening anytime soon based on their forum responses. I've heard that perhaps FCA changed the encryption with the latest CAL ID's, however, I would hit up one of the tuners to confirm that. It shouldn't be too much work for them to update your custom tune with the new base so long as FCA didn't change too much there and they can actually edit the latest calibrations. I know the all custom Hemi tunes I've gotten so far have been against the base calibration and not the canned Diablo tunes, which IMO are kinda crap.

I am using a custom tune (from Hemifever).

But now after the recalls, in order to access the Diablo stock tunes or the custom hemifever tune, the Diablo is asking to downgrade...

Do I understand correctly that everyone with the latest recalls has to downgrade in order to use the canned tunes or a custom tune?

Or is there a way to keep the latest recalls and a tune (canned or custom)?

The only recall that might be questionable is the cruise control recall if the new calibration modifies the CANBUS behavior of the PCM itself during an error state, however, the rest of them are all other modules that have nothing to do with the tune or the PCM calibration ID. The only way to avoid downgrading the PCM CAL ID would be to take a backup of the new calibration and see if Sean at HemiFever and update your custom tune against that Calibration ID. Since your current tune was written against the older ID, as are the Diablo tunes, there is no other option outside of downgrading. Diablo might update the canned tunes at some point against the new calibrations, however, I wouldn't count on it anytime soon since technically those canned tunes still work.

This really isn't a new issue and has been around since the advent of custom tuning and OEM's providing updates to customer PCM's. The only thing that has really changed is the frequency with which the calibrations are updated and the fact they've started doing encryption to hinder 3rd party tuning.

I think your Trinity needs & update, calibration update should not affect flashed recall.
When you click on agree you may get another notice to upgrade Trinity.
I would try to upgrade Trinity 1st before agreeing to downgrade.

Also like I posted earlier, to keep your latest recall flash on your custom tune you need to send tuner latest backup after dealer flashed for new recalls so he can apply to custom.

I recently had all the recalls myself on a 2014.
I use the i2 & had to update, it did not ask for a downgrade though just told me I needed to update i2.....then it went through the calibration process & I had to update i2 one more time.

In my experience with the Diablo tuners the best course of action is to update, back up ONLY, update again, then tune if running the canned tunes.

Had the same thing happen to me after I took my truck in for recalls, 5 of them. Had to call Diablosport and go through a bunch of downloads and even that didn't work. Had to give them control of my Tuner and have them do their magic to it. Took about an hour and a half but after they did their thing I was able to load my tunes back into my truck. My suggestion is to call Diablosport and tell them your problem.

So I have finally done the "downgrade" and the new calibration (1st attempt did not worked as there was a writing error....)- and I could load my (hemifever) custom tune again (without MDS).

Unfortunately now the TCM doesn't get updated.

EDIT:
Problem solved: called the help hotline and we performed a forced transmission calibration update and now everything is working.
