I got a set of recon projectors for a killer deal, and cant figure the HIDS out. Its really starting to **** me off. Lets start by saying, The wiring is good and everything. The lights work GREAT, its the housings and light output. I originally had H1s, what recon calls for, in them. The pattern was horrible and light output was minimal. My fogs were doing most, if not all, of the work. One day i noticed that if i pulled the H1s out slightly, the pattern cleared and voila! Good to go. So i got some H3s. They went in and were actually cut off by the projector, but once again the pattern was terrible. They look great close up, but as you can see, they create U shaped patterns. Meaning as soon as there is any distance between me and an object, they end up way off in the ditch with almost no light in front of me. I have tried to contact recon with no help. This is so frustrating and any help is appreciated. Attached is some pictures. (I put the h1s back in and did NOT aim them. This is just a beam pattern reference picture)

Yea, something is most definitely wrong.

Is the beam pattern all messed up with halogen bulbs?
It seems like the bulb is out of the foci of the parabolic reflector.

I dunno what that means, but ill get some halogens in there tonight and take a look. At this time i can also get a picture of all 3 bulbs next to each other for a reference.

It means that the filament (or arc tube) is not sitting in the correct spot on the projector housing. That's why you are getting such a strange light output from it.

Not to be a d!ck, but did you read my first sentence?

Missed that...still trying to figure out how to read the forum from my new Droid :D

The mounting distamce into the capsule could be the issue but i suspect recon's projector could definitely be a factor. Did moving the bulbs help at all?

It's all good. I apologize if I offended you. Obviously I hit a nerve with BlackRam. I just don't like when people just read the tittle, the. Post without reading the already given information in the thread. If you missed it, I sincerely did not mean to come off as a ****.

Yes. Moving the H1s out did clean up the beam. I thought that was in my first post too, if not I'm sorry I forgot that! That's the main reason I went and tried H3s. Because they looked like the same bulb, only shorter. I'll go at it tonight if it gets dark enough and get all the pictures I can with halogen, h1s pulled out. All the information I can get to try and get insight on fixing this! Nobody else runs recon projectors with any insight?

Here's the problem.......

Recons use cheap **** HALOGEN projectors. This is the result when you put HIDs in a projector that is not designed for HIDs.

If you like the look of the Recons, best bet is to swap the ****** projectors for some that are made for HIDs, or better yet.........retro your stock heads and have a custom set that the truck next to you at the stop light doesn't have. :D

I was hoping you would chime in. I do like the look of the black on white

I do like the quad headlight scheme too. I dunno. Im kinda stuck at this point. I am simply not satisfied with the recons. And even though they were a good deal, it still sucks to hear its a loss. I feel like i need to keep the black scheme because my tails and 3rd are black LED. What would you suggest? If moneys was no object, what cool and one of a kind could you build me?

If you like the look of those, we can investigate putting in some HID projectors in them. If we are lucky it will be a direct fit? Never know!

If money were no object.......I'd do something like this:

not sure on the halos for ME though. They are pricey, and......just not my "style".

I really like the ones I did for Wendy (the first set there) - but I would love to do a "stormtropper" 07-08 too (but more black than white).

I like those too! A simple satin setup. Goes GREAT on the MG (or even white!)

I like the second pic in post 13, but I also like madoggs lights. Obviously, that's been done. I like the halos. But what about a few white LEDs in the marker light bucket? Then the orange lights just for blinkers?

I completely forgot about those! Do you sell them? How much would it be to get some proper projectors in the recons? How about the stock lights in post 13, but white instead of blue? If PM would be better please dont hesitate. I just want light output. Thats all im after. The brighter the better. For me, its not all about looks. I need to be able to see and the more i can get out my headlights, the better.

I don't stock them, but I can get them. I'll have to check with my supplier on costs.

Projectors in the recons? I'd say.........300.

The white ones - shoot me an email (please include some info from this thread, I get a lot of email each day!) and I can work up a quote! [email protected] Thanks!
