Hey currently I have 3.55s and want to know what the pros and cons would be to go to 3.92 or 4.56. Is there a huge price difference between the two? Whats the power benefits and mpg effects? My truck is an 06 4wd single cab short box. 5.7l.
Thanks in advance!

price seems to be the same for ratios (comparing same brand and same vendor) Price is going to be up there either way since you have 4x4 and based on that i would go no less than 4.10's. 4.56's imo.

If your gonna keep a stockish sized tire or go even bigger(being a 4x4) my vote is for 4.56s

Ive heard for the 4.56s to fit the housing has to be ground down. Do most shops do that sort a thing to make them fit? Or am I gonna have trouble finding someone to do so

It really depends on what you want to do with your truck. If you're gonna go do serious crawling/pulling/off roading then 4.56's might make more sense. However, I think for a lot of everyday driving, occasional trailering and offroad time that 4.10's or even 3.92's would be perfect. Those two ratios will let you comfortably turn anything up to about a 35" tire without destroying your on road efficiency. But like I said, it's all about what you want out of your truck.

Good to hear. Y'all recommend anyone to buy gears from? So I can price it.

Also besides the take off power and whatnot. With 265 tires and 285s in the future what can I expect for mpg? Increase or decrease. Right now I get 15 to 16 in town and 19 highway. What other changes will I notice in daily driving... if any I heard 4.56s can increase highway mpg but lower city mpg. I do 85% city driving. Just want some more power on takeoff for the occasional drag race.

So being the same price almost just go with 4.56 over 4.10?rOr would 4.10 have pros vs 4.56.

I think the cross carrier pin needs to be shaved when putting in 4.56's vs 4.10's for 06-08 9.25 rears. the installer can do that or i think Moes sells a notched pin or maybe that was AIRRAM. Cant remember.

You have that backwards, efficiency is increased in town because of the more frequent starts. The rule of thumb is shorter than 31" use 4:10. 31" and taller 4:56 gear. A 4x4 I would always opt for 4:56. I use a 4:10 gear and 28" tires and it turns 2150 rpm at 65 mph, which pretty much spot on for our hemi's. Good luck.

Thanks. I plan on going to 285/70/17 when my current 265s finally die. So I guess 4.56s it is and seeing as I drive almost only in town... rarely going over 45.. that should be good. Cant wait to race some rice burners lol!

Lol not a fan? I currently am stationed in Georgia but hail from Michigan so if I go home 4x4 is a must. And getting to some fishing holes here in the dirty south 4x4 is nice to have.

This IMO is one of the most impressive mods you can do and will keep you smiling. Using 31 or 33" tires you will have no issues on the highway and will question why these trucks didn't come from the factory with them. Have fun..
