Remote Key fob

when i bought my 2002 1500 from my buddy he didnt have the keyless entry remotes for it. Was wondering if i could buy one of the programmable ones from amazon or someone and program it to work. From what ive been told dealership wants $120 for the chip that goes in a key fob. any feedback is much appreciated.

Did the truck have keyless entry previously and your buddy just lost the remotes? You can buy the remotes if it did but you need to have at least one working remote to program the new ones. Otherwise, you need to get a dealer to program them or possibly a locksmith (according to what I have seen on amazon).

it had keyless entry and he just lost the remotes. when i bought the truck i got just the truck key.
