New here and I have done some searching with few to nil results.
I'm making a deal on a 2010 RAM 2500 loaded with everything but the Remote start and sunroof I'm told.
My questions are can the factory remote start be installed in my truck and where do I find a spare key without getting ***** from Dodge?
Thanks

For remote start, I would recommend a good alarm combination/remote start. You can get window roll up, door lock, remote start, and the bonus of alarm with shock sensor for way less than you can get anything from the Dealer.

As for Keys, not sure which one you have, but if its programed, you will get burnt cause the dealer has to do it.

Is the truck stick or auto? Most reputiable places will NOT put a remote start on a stick.

Dealer doesn't have to do the keys, some locksmiths also carry the special programmer. I bought K Fobs off Ebay and had a locksmith program 3 of them for me. 2 key fobs and a chip key that also opens doors. The K fobs were dirt cheap, like 25 bucks off ebay and they work great, the chip key was 45 bucks from locksmith and it worked great too, the cost of the programming was somewhere around 75 bucks. These are my keys, if the kfob breaks the chip ket will start the truck and can also open doors and tailgate.

This is exactly what I did, except I bought the key from the locksmith. The key w/ programming cost me $50 and works great. As for remote start, I remember seeing someone on here talking about a setup on eBay that was around $80 and takes 30 minutes to install yourself. It was on this site, so do some digging around. If I remember the name, I will let you know.

Whaaa? Any competent shop can easily install an auto-start on a stick. There are additional inputs used to ensure the vehicle is in neutral with the e-brake engaged prior to starting. I've had that setup for 12 years on my car.

while you are correct, and i have had the same set up on my previous cars as well, most shops will not install a remote starter on a stick. competance is not the issue, its a big liability. i finally found a shop that would do it after going to a few places, but its basically a cash deal you never had this done here type of thing. they dont want any responsibility for it.

Huh. Maybe it's our cold weather, but up here it's par for the course to have every vehicle with remote start. Nobody blinks, they just charge more than an install on an auto.

Any name brand remote start will work with a manual now days! they have built in safety features that keep the vehicles running until you close the last door. if a door is opened before you remote start it you MUST go through a sequence in order to remote start it the next time. This taking any liability out of the shop installing them.

now if they install one that is not a manual compatible model then it is their a$$.

hell compustar has been around for about 15 years with this technology. it took many others just a long time to catch on to see how well it worked.
