Because the tailgate on my son's truck was so badly mangled prior to purchase, I told my son I would get a replacement for it.

Tried locally through the various auto recyclers with nothing. Broke down and bought one from a big web parts store. It arrived yesterday. Opened the box and this is what it looked like.

Needless to say I made a call to big parts online store and got a refund...so they did not want it back if it was damaged.

Wow !! glad they stood behind it. I am fixing to do the same thing myself with a hood. Shipper probably played bumper pool with it.

Only thing I can think of is rough handling from the warehouse to it being shipped....being knocked around in the back of the shipping truck.

You would think they would do a better packaging job before shipping it out. There isn't any profit in sending junk, especially at today's freight rates.

No companies or stores can get enough or even reliable employees any more.
Those Free Gov't Checks made too many people lazy

When those Ships that are sitting off the coast of Long Beach get off loaded. Stores will be over run with stock & they will be refunding you for any mistakes & tell you to keep the mistake, they won't have room for it.

Right now the auto manufactures need those Microchips & they will be in short supply for a few more months

Looking at everything, the only thing I really wanted to do, was hit it with some paint, transfer over the latch and hardware and put it on. Now, I would have to bang out dents and try to make it not look terrible....not what I really want to do. Taking a chance on having another one shipped and end up with the same result...yeah...NO.

I'll see what I can do....

If you know of a trusted body shop, you could always ask for a price to make it more presentable and maybe paint it yourself or not.

Maybe the cost would be worth saving the grief. :)

Well....I was able to bang out some of the bent over places....tried to hammer out some of the larger looking dents. Unfortunately my rattle can paint job sucks...have to sand it again and try to make it look a little better. It still looks better than the original one.

You're right not great but not anywhere near the worst I've seen on the road.

I'm going to give it another wet sand and try to even it out again. I'm more mad at myself, I had it right where it looked great, then I flipped it over to put the hardware on and left two vertical marks in the paint where it laid on the saw horses I was using. I thought it was completely dry after a few days.....WRONG!!!

Had the same thing happen to me on a replacement tailgate from a big parts website. Came in a similar box completely under-packed, multiple large dents. Luckily they took it back and refunded. When I talked to a local paint shop the guy told me the aftermarket ones are typically a much thinner/cheaper steel which probably contributes to the sensitivity.
