I have a question if anyone knows the answer. I asked a few people and the answer has been yes, no or not sure.

I have a Sony deck in my truck now. It is a single din. I am replacing it with another single din Sony stereo (a newer version, I got it cheap)

Do I have to take apart the console under the stereo to take it out or can I get it directly from where the stereo is now?

My guess, it all depends on how it's installed and if the newer one will fit and clip into the sleeve from the older one.

You have the console or flip up armrest with middle seat? You're going to have to get the center stack cover off so you'll be able to bend the tabs and connect the wires. 2 screws in the bottom of it and it pops right out.

I have the flip down console.

So what you are saying is that this is gonna be a pain in the balls?

No its not bad at all. Its a phillips head screw thats kind of recessed on each corner above the cupholders after you have them flipped down. A regular screwdriver can get them out. Next, grab ahold of it the best you can and pull. One side will probably come loose before the other. After it comes out, unplug the wires running to the cig lighter and ac controls, and you can sit the whole thing out of the way while you mess with the radio. I think there are some tutorials on you tube if you want some visualization.

Since its a single din, you should be able to use your old sleeve, and since the unit you are taking out is a Sony like your new one, the old harness should plug right in and work fine. I know when I put my pioneer in, I couldn't use the bezel that came with it because of the way it sits in the dash, yours may be the same way.

I would try using the little tool that came with the new one and just slide out the old radio and slide in the new one. Don't think Sony has changed their din removal tools, should be a little key looking thing. Pop off the faceplate and the trim ring and look at the sides for the small slots, pop the key in and pull that side slightly then do the other side. It should just slide right out (assuming the old was mounted with the sleeve and didn't use the brackets). If not, then work on removing the dash.

Thanks guys. I am gonna try to remove the stereo itself first. If that don't work, then removing the dashboard it is.

That is, when i get it back from the paint shop.
