Todd (of Retro-Solutions) has been working quite a while on these, wanting to get them RIGHT! The fun part, the 4th gens - the reverse bulbs sit in the light a little cockeyed. So, a nice rear facing LED bulb just won't cut it. Both sides sit differently too. Fun 'eh? So, Todd worked some magic and got the bulbs worked up! I shot him over a tail light from our trucks a few months back for him to use for mocking these up - so, my lucky ass got the first set out the door.
What do these things look like? Crappy cell shot, but here:
Ok, on to the pics! All of these pics were taken with the exact same camera settings (1/2 second shutter speed, ISO-100, F/2.8, 35MM prime lens).
The subject? My fence.
The fence is about 35-40 ft away from the back of the truck (keep in mind, the 35mm lens makes it look VERY close)
Let it get a little darker out and here's the light output from the stock bulbs:

The money shot....................spiffy!!!
This is the first time I have turned off my bumper light (a light buster utility light) in over 3 years (and 2 trucks). I have a VERY tight driveway, which slopes down to my garage. 20% tint on the windows. Every night I back in, I put the windows down, and still sometimes wish for more light. Not tonight. I could see quite well, with the windows up, without the auxiliary backup light on.
