More pictures. I did not reinstall the thermostat. I know the last picture shows it but that was just showing that the new piece is 100% a copy

My truck is lifted 3” on 35s plus I jacked the front end up a little extra so I could move freely. I’m in west palm beach

Which spring controls the temp? Would it be possible to shorten one of the springs to open at a lower temp.

Either the spring is bi-metal so it responds to heat, or there is a wax "capsule" that expands when warmed up and pushes against the spring to open up the coolant flow.

Either way I dont think shortening the spring is the fix, it will just flop around in there and potentially cause bigger issues.

It would be nice to see the guts of the 160 degree that Paramount uses, but Im guessing thats pretty secret sauce.

From what i can tell, the longer heavier spring is the bi-metal thermostat spring, the other smaller spring is just a safety return spring. You might get away with adding a shim to the end of the bigger spring, but that'd be totally experimental, lol. Just an FYI you can't shorten a spring with-out changing it's coil rate, that goes for pretty well any spring

They aren't hard to do are they. I spent more time looking for my bent nose snap ring pliars, then the job actually took, lol.I'm hoping you can get it out for a Sunday afternoon drive soon, lol. Thanks for taking pics,i'm not big on taking pics during a job,so it's nice to have somebody who did take a few pics for the other guys.

You got lucky on the pictures. Lol. I’m usually a get er’ done kinda guy. Decided to take it slow and take pictures today though. And I’ll see. Not sure what I’m doing this weekend. If it’s good sunny weather I’ll probably head out about an hour away for a nice early bicycle ride and that should give me a good idea on trans temp

Not going to lie for some reason I thought it was on the top of the cooler.... now seeing its on the side makes.me think it'll be super easy ... the shift linkage just slips off once the torx are removed and slips back on after correct ?

It does,my shift linkage has already been off a couple times,so mine just needs a good tug,but i have seen video's where Techs have used a pry bar to pop it off, give it a good yank,if it doesn't pop off, then stick a pry bar under it.A good set of bent nose internal snap ring pliars makes the job a piece of cake

We get salt all year long here in south Florida. The sea breeze is bad. Thankfully not road salt blasting the underside of the vehicle bad though.

My first experience at a cheesecake factory was in West Palm. Also some popular place on the waterway there. Was it the "Crab Shack" maybe? I don't want to think about how long ago that was.
Nice job on the mod. And even better with the Pic's. Please be sure to let us know what the results are.

Everyone should email Jett performance an ask them to make a 160 thermostat.

Anybody but Jet,their engine thermostats suck,i wouldn't trust them to make a tranny thermostat that'd live for any length of time.I've yet to see anybody get a year out of a Jet thermostat,i went through 3 of their **** thermostats in less then 2 months.Worst of it was the little Speed Shop i was buying them through, warrentied all 3,then Jet stuck them with the warrenty. They quit selling Jet thermostats after that,as Mike (owner of the shop) said i'll be damned if he was going to warrenty somebodies engine for a stuck thermostat, then have Jet stick him with the engine bill. Maybe Milodon though, lol

Anyone know what the driveshaft bolt torque is?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Good-n-Tight is what i torque them to Shaun, sometimes 2 or 3 ugga-duggas works to,lol. I think down in either the Tech or DYI section the torque specs are posted for most common bolts on the trucks

Put a 180 in my 2003 Dakota 4.7 in 2006, it's still in there...no problems.
