Yea. Kinda annoying. I’m thinking I may email them and see if I can return this since it’s pointless. I don’t really feel like digging into the heater to find out how it directs oil flow to remove the bypass but if I must I will. It would require me to completely remove the thermal block from the transmission which I don’t really feel like doing as that would require me to check fluid level after and could pose possible leak points.

Plus the fact the damn thing isn't all that easy to remove while the tranny is still in the truck, lol. The cooler lines aren't bad to get at,but the heater hoses are a bit of a ***** to get at to remove.Plus you have to be careful removing the little circlips that hold the cooler lines in place,as they can be tough to find if they happen to get away from you and fly off on a tangent, been there/done that when i replaced the tranny in my truck a few years ago,lol

I may pop open the plug again and see if the bypass is easy to get to through there without removing the whole unit... I was going to do a pan and filter at 50,000 which I’m still 15,000 away from so I don’t really feel like dealing with the whole thing right now. I emailed rev max. See what they say if they get back to me

If i stumble across a cheap used thermal unit,i might buy it,as i'm like you, wondering how hard it'd be to plug off the bypass passage so the pump forces all the fluid through the cooler,as it looks like the thermostat closes off one passage while it uncovers the other passage

If we could close the bypass I’m pretty sure temps would plummet. And I’m wondering if that’s not the case. Does the thermostat opening also block the bypass hole? Would it be better to modify the thermostat and reinstall it? Or have someone design a new plug with the appropriate design

I'm talking to Russell at Sound German about his version,it eliminates the heater unit, but it entails some cooler line fabbing, and i'm trying to get a pic of his version to see what all it'd take to make it work instead

I've wondered if a guy could mod the stock thermostat so it's in full cooler flow myself, lol

There is a pic (albeit not a great one) on the High Performance RAMs Facebook group.

Looks like full heater delete. Is it a straight fit?

No it entails having to do some fab work to the hoses,as he says it uses an O-ring fitting, which i'm guessing is probably a 3/8" or bigger ORB fitting.I asked him if the kit comes with the fittings, but he hasn't answered that question yet,lol

That's the cars version, they don't use the thermal heater like the trucks do,so it's quite a bit differant then the trucks thermostat bypass

That's weird.......the link I sent from Hellraiser has a block to check for truck version but if you scroll down toward the bottom it says it doesn't fit Ram.......are there other trucks with ZF8HP"s

The 5th Gen heavy duty 2500/3500's with the 6.4 and 8HP75 use a thermostat block similiar to the cars,as the heavy duty trucks don't pre-heat the tranny fluid, neither do the cars,so they have a totally differant set-up then the 1500's do,only the 4th and 5th Gen 1500's pre-heat the transmission fluid,in fact as far as i can tell, they are the only ones that do pre-heat the fluid,as the same 8 speed is used in BMW's all the way up to Roll Royces, and our trucks are the only ones saddled with the heater unit
