What is the rubber strip between the bed and the cab for?

Which one? There's the ones on the sides then another on the bottom.

I think the ones on the sides are just there to fill the gap. Gives the visual impression that there’s not an open space there. The bottom one I think is supposed to prevent road grime from blowing up between the box and the cab. All it really does is wear the paint off the back of the cab where it touches. Lots of threads here about guys taking them off.

I actually believe they are to make the truck a tad more streamlined to get another fraction of MPG out of them. The aerodynamic game is in full swing now. Not saying they are good, but all the rubber bits between all the body parts close the opening to smooth air flow. Just like the "missing" screw that seems like it should have been somewhere. Lightens the vehicle by another gram more two and added to all the other items left out, reduces the weight and puts the vehicle is a lower class for MPG purposes. Besides, the screw had to be left off to compensate for the extra rubber bits!
