I'm gonna start posting this on every thread I see about MPG on a 5.7L Hemi, lol.

To answer your question, drive it like your grandmother would. Keep foot out of skinny pedal.

Alright fellas, let me re-word this question, buying things such as K&N air filters and exhausts, do they really help with fuel consumption like people talk about, or is it really just a scam?

I've heard of people getting some of their MPG back with CAI and running tuners. These trucks are built to be as efficient as possible though. That's why the factory tires are horrible, they're rated for MPG and not driving a 4x4. As soon as you change the aerodynamics and things like the wheels and tires, it's going to go downhill. But yes, I believe you can get some of it back with bolt ons. Probably won't be as good as it came stock though.

They are not scams, but usually purchased for reasons unrelated to fuel economy. These modifications, used in conjunction with a decent tune, may yield better fuel economy. But more times than not these modifications result in the truck being driven in a less than economical manner.

I'll add, without a tune, basic bolt-ons will do nothing but sound good.

Nothing...do nothing. The factory got it the best you can expect to get a 6000# 4x4.

If you are trying to eek out every .001mpg you can do things like remove your antenna, tape up the gaps in the front bumper and hood, keep your mirrors folded in, put on super skinny/hard tires, and keep the truck empty of unneeded weight.

It's all good. :)

I have heard that a couple of the CAI can boost MPG without a tune. Maybe even the right exhaust can help. Running premium fuel can boost MPG as well, but it cost more at the pump. A tune will maximize any MPG gains though from everything I've read.

Learn to feather MDS while cruising...takes serious practice at speeds higher than 40mph. Some mods will help, but overall all don't try and tear the rubber of your rims everytime the light turns green. Also, you know what you're getting before you buy so if you want fuel economy, don't buy a truck or suv :]

if your trying to squeeze mpg's out of the truck, dont touch it. you might (and i emphasize the might part) get slightly better mileage from a CAI and a tune, but enough to justify the cost, probably not.

speaking from experience here, once you add a CAI, exhaust, tune, etc., your MPG's are going down. ive lied to myself trying to justify the cost of the parts thinking ill get it back in mileage gains, but in reality, your really just going to floor the gas more often to hear/feel your mods.

I find running premium fuel yields me more mileage, but equals out to the same cost/km. (~$0.20/km) my catback duals helped a bit, and the K&N filter didn't make much difference. Just better throttle response.

If you want a CAI, exhaust, whatever, do it because you like to mod or like the sound an extra power.

Never do it to save money on gas, because even if they save a fraction, the mods cost more than the savings. Besides that, most with performance mods hit the gas harder anyway.

The number one way to save gas in our trucks is to slow down and baby the gas pedal. But what fun is that! LOL

If I set my curse at 60 mph and let the MDS work I get between 22-24 mpg right up until some honda passes me. :sorry:

I Park it and drive my wifes fusion. Other things you can try with these trucks are over inflating the tires temporary and without spending money that's about it. Still a brick flying through the air no real good way around that.

After my k&n and muffler delete i am averaging 11 mpg. Tuner will be your best thing and use the mileage booster tune.
