So, FYI, At Pep Boys Automotive today and noticed Seafoam is on sale at $6.98/16oz bottle. Normally almost $12. Just wanted to let you know.

https://www.pepboys.com/sea-foam-16...and-diesel-engines/product/9410855?quantity=1

Question: Normally have the dealer do my oil changes because I buy the packages because the price drops considerably for my 6.4 MegaCab. Well, my 16 year old son now has his Ram 1500 I need to show him how to properly change his own oil and the process involved. My question is, do you or have you ever used Seafoam in your crankcase? Is there a need? They say to add one ounce for every quart of oil. I have more than enough Seafoam in my cabinet so if there is a benefit I will add to my oil change. Thanks.

I've used it with great success in my lawnmower and Honda generator (gas tanks). One thing I never knew until just recently is that Seafoam is also a stabilizer/preservative so now I'm just going to use it instead of the standard stabilizer I'd used before on things that sit.

As for putting it in my engine? I'm not that brave. Especially if it is something under warranty. I know I've read a lot about people that have put it in with oil but I'm sure you could mix a couple shots of Jim Beam in and it probably wouldn't noticeably hurt it.

When putting it in with the gas I have something I'm trying to help - mainly rough running from using old gas. I'd need to have something I was trying to accomplish by even considering putting in with my oil.

Yes on Seafoam for fuel tank - mainly for boats....
Never in crankcase - not even once - car, truck, boat or even push mower.

I've used Seafoam before through the vacum line in a couple of different vehicles. I have no idea if it has done what is supposed to as i never felt the difference to be honest. The smoke show on the other hand... that will be only thing that i'll always remember from using Seafoam :)

Seafoam or any other additive in your oil. What problem are you trying to address??? Don't introduce aproblem where none exists. If you are on this forum you probably already obsess about oil and filters. Leave it well enough alone IMO. Any "crud" dislodged is going to end up somewhare. Odds are it won't make it to the filter. No different than a blod clot!

i did use seafoam once in my motorbike oil upon advice, to try to remedy a stuck lifter. information on putting it in oil is very specific not to put more than 100 to 150 miles on the engine before changing out the oil again. I see seafoam in oil as a last ditch effort and as ssaid earlier, to fix a specific issue. btw, it did nothing in this case. issue was piston slap.

Vacuum lines or bust with sea foam. It really is a good product when you can put 100% of it in the combustion chamber. I bet your kid would like that as well.

I appreciate the replies. I have done it in the vacuum line in the '72 K5 with a SBC400 in it. It was a great smoke show in the neighborhood.

THe reason I asked about it in the 1500 was because we bought the truck used with 28K on the odo and while the truck was in real nice condition and owned by a retired couple, you just never know how well the engine was cared for PM service wise. I'll not use the seafoam in the oil. We did do the oil change and what a PITA that filter is. Not to mention the ******* who did the last change put the filter on way to tight.

if there is no problem/noise then dont put seafoam in the crankcase I only do that when its a last resort before i tear a engine apart for a oil pressure issue or noise and boy does it work sometimes lol.
