I only have about 1,000 miles on my new 2016 Ram 1500 5.7 L and am wondering what the recommended service schedule is? I have found several different ones online including 5k mile intervals, 7.5k and 10k. But what is the true factory recommendation or what do you guys do?

your salesman should've went over that with you. and your service department can tell you, especially to keep good with the warranty claims.

Me? i change my oil every 5k, i was told not to go over 7.5k

The owners manual is a pretty good guide .
As far as engine oil goes , I'd dump the factory fill @ or prior to 3k miles .
Also your truck should be equipped with an oil life monitor , I guess it's a good guide as well .

How often you change your engine oil really depends on what you choose to run ie ... conventional, semi synthetic, full synthetic or a quality Ester base oil.
Most conventional oils 3 - 4.5 k
Semi syn 5-6 k , full syn 6 -8 k , Ester base oil 8 -10 all info is simply imo.

Hi jschwanke84--hope you're enjoying your 1500! You can pull up the recommended maintenance schedule from your Owner's Manual here: Ram Trucks Owners Service Manuals

The schedule information begins on page 881. Hope that helps!

I dumbed the stuff they put in at the factory at a 1000 miles and change oil every 5000 or 1 year using the Pennzoil Platinum they recommend.

I had 4 free oil changes from the dealer and they said oil change every 6k miles or 6 months and I'm sure they use conventional oil.

Does anyone happen to know if the 2012 model year has an oil life monitor?

These days you don't have to do much.

For my Pentastar 4x2 I'm doing the following...some of which is not by the manual.

Oil-filter: OLM goes to about 10K miles - I do 8K-10K
Air Filter: 30K-2yr
Tire Rotation: Somewhere around 10K
Differential Fluid: 30K
Plugs - Wires: 100K
Transmission Service: 100K
Coolant: 100K-5yr 1st service - 50K-2Yr thereafter
Belts: Until it breaks or makes noise.
