Okay for the record I have heard both sides to this..It’s my first Cummins diesel (used to have Ford F350’s) I love the torque and the overall feel
of the truck..but there are times I have to move my 3500 from one side of the driveway to the other. Is it harmful to just start it long enough to move it? Or should I leave it running? Same question about when I have a trip to the feed store or into town. Leave it running and take the key fob? Or shut it off like a gas vehicle?

There is verbiage in the owners' manual that discourages long idles albeit "long" isn't defined. I start and stop mine as needed, just like the two gasser's I own.

I am not prone to letting my Cummins idle for extended periods, and when started I like to drive it until it is warmed up to full operating temp but sometimes this isn't possible. I have sometimes started my truck to move it and shut if off, but don't like to make a habit of it.
