Should I add cab lights?

I've always thought cab lights were cool, but never had them. The truck I ended up buying doesn't have them (2019 2500).

If I recall correctly Mopar sells them for maybe 100 bucks or 150 or so.

I believe I'd have the dealer install them if they're open to doing it, because I wouldn't exactly like to pull down the headliner and drill into my roof.

Am I crazy to try and get them? Seems like it's a good opportunity for rain leaks.

I ended up buying my 19 2500 bighorn without cab lights because it tucked all the other boxes I wanted in a truck. I figured I would add them but I can't bring myself to drill all those holes.

Have the dealer do it. I added them to a 97 f-350 I had wasn't a big deal never leaked but then again that was a 97 I wouldnt want to drill a brand new truck either let someone do it that if they mess it up they will have to fix it.
I was very happy my 2500 had them it wasn't a deal breaker but very glad I have them so your not crazy.

I can't find them for sale anywhere. Could have sworn I saw them on the official Mopar parts page, but they seem to only go up to 18.

Definitely only want OEM

I couldn't find an '18 HD without them. I'm thinking about taking them off, stuff the lights behind the headliner and use white gorilla tape to cover the holes. But probably just leave them, just thankfuil there are clear lenses.

The 2019 came with the new style LED cab lights which are different then the previous years. They also mount different and would be a lot more difficult to retrofit on your own. The old ones were just a round pass through hole and 2 screw holes each. The new ones have square cutouts.

Personally I wouldn't put the old style on there, I don't think they will look as good but that's me. The new ones are more expensive and a lot more difficult to install though.

I almost bought a black truck without clearance lights and told the dealer that they would be adding them- I'm not about to cut into a new truck, I'd prefer they own that liability. They were happy when I found my current white truck instead with the snow chief package, which includes the cab clearance lights. The clearance lights on the 2019's are nice LED's, I like them better than the previous lights.

Sounds like I won't be doing them if they need square holes. Thanks all

I have them and love them. Yes it's a look you either like or don't. I've always liked them.

I believe right now you can't get new LED clearance lights installed by a dealer since they are not yet offered as a dealer installed accessory yet. I would wait, sooner or later they will be available as a dealer installed item and could be redesigned so the dealership could use round holes.

Love the look of the cab lights on 2019+.

I have then on my 2020 PW. They are slightly tinted or smoked which creates a great contrast with the rest of my truck1be85d465e8592ce65b24d242094f97e.jpg

I have either ordered, or installed cab lights on all my trucks since 1973 and never had an issue. It is up to the owner if he wants them or not. To each their own.

Damn man, apparently I’m the only one alive that doesn’t like cab lights. Just potential for rust and leaks in my opinion. The less holes in my sheet metal the better.

You are not the only one who does not like them. To me they mean commercial vehicle. I cant even figure what their purpose is. Do you actually use them to measure clearance under something?

It's a actual requirement on trucks 80" + wide (dually's). Some say it also applies if the trailer your towing is over that but I have not seen the actual code/law on that one.

They do serve a purpose. But a lot of people like them for looks as well which is just fine. I like mine. Different strokes for different folks.

They are used to provide oncoming vehicles an idea of your vehicle’s width.
