Hey guys
I'm new to the forum and to the truck world in general. I used to own a 2006 GMC Canyon as my last car and I wanna get back in a truck, I've been lookin at the 2014 ram 1500 5.7, I've also been doing a lot of research. I've read about the transmission clunking and that's what's keeping me from committing, so are there any major problems I should know about before I decide to make my purchase

If you're not concerned about good mpg then hell yes. I did and enjoy every mash of the pedal.

I got the 5.7 8-speed 3.92 with the laramie trim. I really like it.

However, I think the tundra is worth checking out also. You get a 4:30 ratio and the aftermarket on the tundra is pretty large.

I would not bother w/ Chevy/ GM. To me, the truck hasn't evolved much since its design "pre bail out."

I like the f150 drivetrain but, the exterior looks cheap to me. Very "ikea."

So, yes to Ram. But also check out tundra. I bet Ram has better incentives.

My other option was sierra.Fyi if you're looking for most interior space, and it's really important, no one beats ford supercrew for interior space the 1500 series.

I tinted a coworkers 2016 F-150 yesterday. Teeny ass radio screen, no back up camera, rubber floormats, 17 inch rims, and a cheesy looking interior. No thanks. I'll take My RCSB Express that was $7000.00 cheaper. :Big Laugh:

Great trucks, but for the love of FSM, don't get the sunroof! That damn thing rattles like no other. Already had the TSB completed and still rattling. So far I've squeezed 2 additional foam blocks up there. It's probably good for another month or so until I need more foam. Hopefully they corrected the issue on later models, mine's a 14'

Ya, the TSB applies to 14' model year. Don't know what they changed but it sucks.

I think transmission issues apply to the 90s.. Or at least up until Ram "separated" from dodge..

The only issues I can think of with the 4th gen Rams is the 5 and 6 spd trans.. They suck.

Oh Ok, I think I was reading a thread on this forum titled the 8 speed clunk and got kinda worried but it's possible they were early models

They seem to have a tendency to downshift hard into first when coming to a stop. Mine does it. Although it was a little concerning at first, once I learned it wasn't abnormal I don't even notice anymore. And otherwise, the 8 speed in these trucks is the bees knees. It's honestly what sold me on getting a Ram. It's a b.a. transmission overall.

Ok that actually helps a lot, I never talked to someone that owned one so It helps to get some insight on normal operation.
