Hey guys, I recently put on a 2 inch pro comp leveling kit on the front of my truck and got 35 inch firestone M/T tires with some 17 inch XD 811 rims. I was getting roughly 14.3 or so driving (mostly city) and now that I have the leveling kit and the 35 inch tires I am getting like 11.1 city and 12.7 on the highway..... Is that normal or is my computer system in my truck just not as accurate now that I have gotten away from stock parts? or could there possibly be something else causing this really bad mileage? I understand its a truck and hemi and all that, but damn.... 11.1 or 11.2 seems really bad. Any guidance or tips is greatly appreciated. Thanks! :favorites13:

I would check the mileage the old fashioned way. Adding bigger, heavier tires will change your mileage and the on board computer doesn't know what tires you are running.

How are you measuring the mileage?

For one thing your traveling farther than your truck knows due to the overall diameter of your tires , as stated above . So your mpg arn't as bad as your Evic # ( maybe ) my trucks computers mpg calculations have always been about 1.2mpg better than hand calculated.
Secondly you stated mostly city mileage , depends on what kind of city milage & how heavy for hemi foot is ...
I'm still on stock tires & a level , my evic computed mpg avg 20.00 aprox for all around driving that I do , in the terrain I live in . I'd say 75 % of my driving is 45+ mph , when I do.75% city driving G on a tank I'll loose 5mpg easy .
Hope this helps !

I would say thats relatively normal. Youre going from stock tires to 35s which is what brings the mileage down mostly when lifting a truck. As of now i am getting 12/13 city and 15/16 hwy and i have a 6" lift with 36s. EVIC and hand calculatuon for me is only .4-.5 off, i have a diablosport trinity with hemifever tune though and i change my tire size through that.

have you checked it on the road with the mile markers. Occasionally, you can find those mileage check areas, where the markers are measured more accurately. If it's not the inaccuracies of the new tires/ stock odometer, look for dragging brakes, or bad toe setting.

It's exactly what I got with bilsteins and 35s, added the 6" and 37s and only lost 1mpg from that.

I also like that with the lift and 37s it doesn't have the speed of Verne troyer.

Just added 2.5 level and 35's. Lost 5+ mpg on highway and 2.5 city. I can't imagine how bad it will be pulling the quad trailer around. Try looking for some products that will help with mph. You may get 1 back but really, it is what it is. I seem to really loose it on the highway because the truck won't stay in 8th gear. Sometimes I get it into 8th with a tailwind going down a hill but it won't stay there. Good luck. The look is worth it in my opinion.

This is why i always say i would never put 35s on a leveled truck. All the negatives of being lifted, but you arent lifted. At least on half ton trucks.. at least the leveled 3/4 tons look somewhat tall.

FWIW, I get about 11 mpg in a stock 2wd. 100% terrible city commuting. 45 mins to go 8 miles. 3.21 gears.

bottom line... you need 3.92+ or its going to suck.

I average around 13 in the city.

Went on a 350 mile trip this past weekend and averaged 14.2 on the highway with cruise set at 82. **** ton better than the 9.2 I got in my Megacab.

Did you recalibrate your speedometer? A programmer will help recalibrate and adjust your shift points.

Thanks guys for all the information, I took a trip this weekend and I got about 14.7 driving 65 on flat highways.... I was looking into tuners are they really worth it? I have heard that they are only really intended for diesels... I kind of wish I would have gotten 33's I have a little bit of rubbing when turned at extreme angles, but its all good. That's one thing that would be good is to recalibrate the shift points I notice that when I am going up hills its lacking shifting and losing a little bit of giddy-up when I am pressing on the gas, so a tuner would fix that? Thanks again guys for all the help, this is a damn good website for Ram enthusiasts.
