Should I swap out the 20's for something smaller?

Hi guys. I have a white 2013 Ram CC Express with chrome door handle/mirror covers, running boards, and chrome clad 20 " rims. I will be leveling the truck and replacing the tires soonish. Ive been shopping around for tires and as we all know the bigger the rim the more pricey the tire. Would it make sense to buy a 17" rim (black) to replace the 20s? I love the black on white look. Chrome looks good as well. But i I could almost buy some 17s and tires for around the price of just tires for the 20s. Replacing tires down the road also cheaper. I would then sell the 20s. Has anyone gone this route?

Thanks.

Plenty of people have done this, as long as the tire you buy is close/the same diameter as the oem tires you can just swap them over with no issues. If there's a difference in circumference then you'll need to either re-calibrate the speedo or just be aware of the speed difference and drive accordingly.

I don't like big wheels. Never have. Was happy to fit 15's on my truck. 16's are 2500 wheels. But my o'l lady runs 18's for summer and 16's for winter.

Here's a local of my 2011 with 17's. Those are the smallest you can go without modding I believe it's the brakes.
It had a 2.5" level with stock tires. The roof lights weren't installed, just threw them on for a pic to see what they'd look like lol.

Next pic is my 2014 with 20's. Personally I prefer the larger wheels on my 2014.

I'm in the process of doing that. Tires are sitting in garage, (Nitto G2 285/75/17) rims have been ordered (Method~Mesh). I will be posting pics. Hopefully next week everything will be installed.

Here's my '09 sport 4wd with my winter 17s on; 17s in winter rubber are a hell of a lot cheaper but I do run a set of 22s in the summer only because you can't find Y rated 17" tires.

17's are a popular wheel and not to expensive. The ION alloys I had on my 07 wrapped in 35's were only $140 a piece and look great on a more ram with a more aggressive stance.

The hard part is picking what wheels you like..

For me, rims where sooo hard to find. All the ones I like they do not make anymore. I thought I settled on Raceline Avenger SL, but one last glance at them before I ordered I noticed a portion of the rim was painted black. I looked for a solid month for used rims in the style I like. Nothing. Its the 5x5.5 bolt pattern that hindered me.

I know this isn't a 4th gen, but I did the same thing on my 3rd gen this past spring. I had 34s on stock 20s and wanted to go to a 35. New 17" wheels and 35s were cheaper than just getting 35" tires for the stock 20s.

Man, I was so excited to read this bout the black covers, I went on Ebay and found them... For $95 with free shipping... Then I read they will not fit on the rims that have the factory chrome clads... Everything is just a tad off... "they won't fit, don't even try it"... Damn!

Messin around on Discount Tires site I found some rims.

17" MB TKO

Looking at a LT285/70/17 Hankook Dynapro ATM

Its just a wee bit smaller than 33" which is what I have now.

Wondering if this tire will look good with a 2" level. Or would it look too small? Anyone running this size?

Probably a little small with a level. I'd stick with a 33" or even go bigger.
