got a 2018 1500 a few weeks ago, wanted to remove all the chrome emblems on the sides and trunk and replace with black ones.

ive done it in the past with no issue just heat up and remove. my issue is if theres glue residue left?

also how can I correctly fit the new ones on. or just wing it?

Tape around the old ones so u don’t have to pull out a measuring tape. Some heat (or do it on a hot day), dental floss and squirt some goo gone on them and let it sit for a few minutes and go to town. Then use either a plastic razor blade or your finger to peel the double sided tape off the car.

I agree with the eraser wheel and I think it's a must on the Rams. There is a **** load of adhesive on some of these emblems. I was glad I had the eraser wheel when I did my 2500.

The Charger in comparison took me 10 mins and I got off any residue by hand, then just used a little ethanol to degrease the area and it was perfect. Ram took a bit more effort lol.

Not sure if you are planning on trying to take off the Ram head on the tailgate but that is screwed in to place and will leave holes if removed.

with the truck being new, just slightly heat up the badges and removed with fishing line in a sawing motion through the adhesive. The rest of the glue will easily come of with your fingers. If there is a slight outline left it actually makes it easier to get the new badges lined up

+1. I did this a couple weeks ago on my new 18 express and it was in the 40s here. Didn’t use heat, just fishing line. Then bug and tar remover to take off what adhesive was left that I couldn’t roll off the truck. Very quick and easy.

I'd leave the badges off completely. I mean, if the idea is to have a sort of stripped down look, then why not go for it!? It cracks me up when I see "blacked out" jeeps with silly black gas cap covers and black tail light protectors.
