Side Mirror Housing Disassembly

I bought a 22 ram 1500 and accidentally bounced my side mirror off the side of the garage opening and cracked my turn signal lens clear cover and need to replace it. How do I take the mirror housing apart to be able to replace the clear cover? Any help will be appreciated. I’ve been looking on the internet for days and can’t figure it out. Thanks

Welcome, if you can find a replacement lens you need to carefully remove the mirror glass. There are YouTube videos that demonstrate how this is done, but a word of caution is not to apply much force trying to remove the glass or you will break it.

I understand, if I recall correctly you need to access the inside behind the glass to remove the blinker lens.

Ok thanks. Seems to be a real pain and I’m guessing you would have to do the same process to change bulbs as well?

On the OLD type mirrors, the mirror glass comes off first



Then at the center bottom, there is a black clip that can be moved with a finger or thumb, that clip is the lock that holds the signal light in place

Get a 5" suction cup and put your shoulder against the mirror housing and pull, the mirror will pop out , just be careful to not pull it too far and rip the wiring off. mine came disconnected but no damage. Once the reflective surface is off, theres one torx screw that has to come out. Then I used 3 flat screwdrivers to pry in the tabs that hold the front painted cover on. then you have to remove the screws that hold in the light/lens assembly. I replaced both of mine with smoked sequentials. Took about 45 mins total.
